Of the Muslims I've met almost at school and various jobs all were concerned with having a decent job, raising their kids and the same mundane stuff of day to day living as anyone else. The ones I talk to (admittedly a small and as unscientific sample as possible) have the same deep love for the terrorists that I (as an American of Irish decent) have for the scum in the IRA:-).

I would bet that the distribution of fervency is pretty much the same bell curve as it is for us Christians - ranging from True Believers to ones who show up at mosque once or twice a year (akin to the "C and E "- Christmas and Easter Christians).

The only Muslims I've met overseas were in Turkey which is a very secular state and most of those folks took their Islam about as seriously as the typical Episcopalian takes their Christianity (which is to say fine and dandy as long as it doesn't get in the way of business, pleasure, tasteful clothing and good manners)
