One of the unfortunate diseases of the body politic has been the increasing politicalization of the US Supreme Court. This was not caused by conservatives; however, perhaps it should be solved by a conservative President.
One outstanding chance is now upon us. Most likely, President Bush will take the safe road and go through the political gauntlet and appoint a known conservative judge. What we really need is a break in the partisanship of the appointment process. Nominating former President Clinton would give everyone pause and begin a process where politicians (mostly, but not exclusively Democrats) can cease making efforts to please narrow interest groups in the selection process.
I know former President Clinton has personal flaws. I also know his reputation for politically catering to the pro-choicers and so forth. If any of you know a successful politiican, you know how much many of them hate being jerked around by special interest groups. I do believe Clinton began as a centrist in his party and did sign the welfare reform bill and so forth.
I could give his other qualifications, but I will leave it here.
Keep Billy on the hot seat until he melts down and then vote against him. I wonder if the media would cover the inquisition.
And now, I'll return home from Fantasy Island.
Interesting. If I remember correctly the man was disbarred-at least as to practicing before the U.S. Supreme Court.
am i here before the zot???
Haha. I'm posting this so I can come back in a few days and check to see if you were serious.
Why any conservative would ever appoint the most deft politician the left has ever produced to the SCOTUS is a little beyind me.
I have a drinking problem....I can't swallow fast enough.
The Vanity Hall of PLAME, indeed!
;^)
WTF is wrong with you?
No fooling, dude.
But there is a time and a place for such foolishness, and today isn't one of 'em.
"Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you."
Shame on you for provoking so much profanity.
Absolutely no way.
Other than having a law degree, he is amazingly unqualified to sit on the bench.
Listen, shrinkermd. You really need to stop beating yourself in the head with a hammer. When you hit yourself like that, it makes you say and think really stupid things.
Are you out of your cotton picking mind???? May I suggest two of these and a few cups of coffee. Take care of yourself.
Clinton only signed welfare reform after he refused to 3 times. Republicans took over Congress with promises such as welfare reform. He signed it to save his butt. He never was a centrist. He was and always has been a strategist. What you would have if you put Him on the court is Clinton Unfiltered. He would not longer need to strategize because he would no longer face the voters. IT WOULD BE A TRAGIC MOVE TO PUT HIM ON THE COURT.
Okay. You posted this, and have not come back to discuss this. Most Freepers would be justfied in thinking you are just trolling.
I suggest that if you don't make an appearance soon to defend this ridiculous "idea", your account should be terminiated, long membership notwithstanding.
Granted, I have not allowed much time to elapse, but if I posted a silly vanity like this, and was really serious, I would be watching for responses to reply to.
Unless, of course, that is not your intention, but you wish to be merely productive. I admit there are humorous aspects to this (particularly, post 11 by cambridge), and on that basis, maybe we should let the indiscretion pass.
Mark Twain became famous thinking. One of his famous quotes was that, "...what most people call thinking is really emoting...the aggregation of this is public opinion...in the popular mind it solves everything...some think it is the voice of God..."
If you don't think by reflex and do think in respect to what is best for our country, you might see a little wisdom in my proposal. In the meantime, all those without flaws or sins should speak up. A perfect SCOTUS candidate is not likely.
Finally, not to worry even a courageous man like President Bush is not likely to take such a bold step. More the pity.
That's COUNTERproductive...:)
You are kidding. Thanks for the laugh, I certainly needed a pick me up this morning.
I became a Republican thanks to little Jimmy Carter, he opened my eyes to how very destructive DeMARXocrats are to Democracy and Freedom.
Please see several posts down. 77 I believe. I did not know you were the moderator of this Website.
