The others will be shuffled around and heaven knows what new horrors await them.
They don't want to be treated like cattle in a relocation center. I don't know what I'd do about them. They will probably end up being dragged out kicking and screaming anyway and could die from the trauma of relocating to unfamiliar surroundings. Texas ain't that great of a place. Houston is one of the last place I'd want to end up. All of the options sound bad, Air Force bases aren't the best places to live, cruise ships? No thanks.
All the new Cadillac Escalade owners are waiting for a military escort out of the city. It is most unfortuante that the storm and flood has washed away all the license plates from these new vehicles.
If they have kids, take the kids out of there. They shouldn't suffer because of the stupid adults who won't leave.
I've said this all along.
There are people that couldn't leave, and there are people that wouldn't leave.
I've always thought it will get real interesting once they get to those that wouldn't leave.
Yes, obviously Bush's fault.
I'm imagining the media reaction to the pro-active federal response to all this that they seem to think is missing:
"BUSH USURPS STATE AND LOCAL POWER"
"CITIZENS GUNNED DOWN IN STREETS WHILE TRYING TO FIND SUPPLIES"
"ELDERLY AND SICK FORCED OUT OF HOMES AT GUNPOINT BY TROOPS"
"BUSH IGNORES LAW, ASSUMES DICTATORIAL POWER"
What's the big deal? It's their choice. This still IS the United States of America. If they choose to remain that's fine. Let them remain and move on.
I would think after a week of looking out your window at standing filthy sewer water, one would ask yourself, "what are my options" besides someone coming and magical transporting me to my new home ,new job, clean clothes, food and water.
Maybe they aren't so crazy. It is written that the living will envy the dead. This could be one of those situations There comes a point where it is too late to start a new life anywhere.
The others will be shuffled around and heaven knows what new horrors await them.

....
Looking at the glass half empty and being an over all pessimist doesn't help anyone or anything. Good thing Winston Churchill was in charge instead of someone like you when Nazi Germany blitzed England eh.
I'm sick of people putting that fine city down.
My admiration for Houstonians, who were the first to open their city to the needy, continues to grow.
Houston is a "can do" city whose achievements over the last half century cannot be matched by any other city on Earth.
Yeah, good thing. I woke up crying this morning. I'm old now. My glory days are over, but I did a couple heroic things in my life so bug off.
Realizing that I am heat stroke prone, I would have been one of the bodies in the Astrodome. That's why I don't like the south. Had a heat stroke there when I was a child.
At some level, they understand they'll never go back unless they make a killing in the market.
I saw that too--a woman and a three year old kid. Did they leave with the rescuers?
from a Letter of Lincoln to Erastus Corning, June 12, 1863
"After the battle of New Orleans, and while the fact that the peace treaty had been concluded was well known in the city, but before official knowledge of it had arrived, General Jackson still maintained military law. . . Among other things, a Mr. Louiallier published a denunciatory newspaper article. General Jackson arrested him. A lawyer by the name of Morel procured the United States Judge Hall to order a writ of habeas corpus to release Mr. Louiallier. General Jackson arrested both the lawyer and the judge. A Mr. Hollander ventured to say of some part of the matter that "it was a dirty trick". General Jackson arrested him. . .A day or two more elapsed, the ratification of the treaty of peace was regularly announced, and the judge and others were fully liberated.
It may be remarked--first, that we had the same Constitution then as now; secondly, that we had then a case of invasion. . . and thirdly, that the permanent right of the people to public discussion, the liberty of speech and the press, the right of trial by jury, the law of evidence, and the habeas corpus, suffered no detriment whatever by the conduct of General Jackson. . ."
"My admiration for Houstonians"
God bless them.

MSM SCREAMS ! Where is the help ?
Let them stay?
And then be sued when they died of the disease that is bound to come?
No, evancuate the ENTIRE city!
I wasn't putting it down. I don't like big cities, any big cities. I never want to go to Minneapolis, Chicago, New York, any of them ever again. I think I may have to change planes in Chicago for a brief trip I have long desired to make to a very small place, near NYC, and don't want to have to fly in there if I can help it.
I'm sorry, I just can't handle big cities. I don't care how pretty they look in pictures.
You nailed it.
Hadn't considered that, but you might be right.
