Kennedy demands? Put to a national vote, this long in the tooth pompous senator would be thrown out of office!

Kennedy wants to have ample time to consult with Cindy.

Sen. Edward Kennedy (news, bio, voting record), a Massachusetts Democrat, said the consideration of successors to Rehnquist and O'Connor should be held off to allow the Bush administration and Congress to focus on the Katrina disaster.

Uh, Teddy? Maybe you didn't get the memo. Your party doesn't get to decide the timing of this. Your party lost the election. You are not the President. You are just a drunken, fat slob who will never be President because you lied about allowing Mary Jo to drown.

We'll wait for the man who is actually President to decide what to do. In the interim, if you can't personally contribute to the solutions required for Katrina beyond dragging your lard infested carcass back to the chamber early to vote on emergency relief, just pour yourself another 4 fingers of Ketel and shut your big fat yapper.

Is this Satire??? If not, it didn't take that pompous windbag long to beat the Democrat political drums. Of *course* he wants a delay because there would only be seven justices with a good chance of five being on the moonbat left in decisions. Such behavior from the Senate, that would deprive us of a fully staffed SCOTUS for its next session is *not* tolerable.

To borrow a phrase from a mayor of New Orleans, "Get off your asses."

Seems pretty simple and obvious to me: Schmimma doesn't want anything (Katrina, et al) to possibly upstage his histrionics at the SCOTUS hearing.

And, deep inside, he knows Roberts will be confirmed. So why not try and use Katrina as a foil to delay the inevitable?

May God bless his soul and help his family find comfort. May God also help the citizens of the United States of American find comfort. We lost a great man and a great leader in our nation.

Remember all the Dems that said O'Connor should be replaced by someone with the same exact judicial philosophy? Think theyll make that same argument this time?

Here's what should happen:

1) Roberts should be confirmed SOONER all the more reason to eliminate vacancies.

2) Bush should promote Scalia to the CJ level. The Dems would have a hard time balking at that promotion, since it really doesnt change USSC balance and filibustering that *wont change anything*.

3) Bush will then be able to *WAIT* for the confirmation of Scalia to CJ to have him resign and nominate a successor.
Say in October.

In doing so, Bush manages the calendar so that Roberts is confirmed before Bush nominates anyone else new.

THe Dems want to hold the cards to try to negotiate away a conservative vote.

Screw em. Bush should nominate Luttig, Garza, or Edith Jones to replace Scalia. Luttig is best, he's a Scalia understudy.

Why Dishonorable Senator? Did we stop governmental functions when you drowned someone? The business of the country should go on if you kill someone or a natural disaster kills one or more people.

The Robert hearing needs to be sped up, Ted, not delayed.

Congress has already done everything they can do for Katrina; they appropriated money.

Now they can get on with daily business, including Roberts' nomination hearing.

Here's my outside the box thinking. Pres. Bush could nominate one of the current lib justices, say Stevens, to the CJ job. The libs would gain the prestige of their guy being CJ but little more. Dubya would then be free to nominate a conservative to fill Stevens seat. It would be hard for the Dems to complain too loudly without looking foolish.

My reasoning? The chief justice's influence is limited so long as the majority on the court are conservative. Plus, this move would inoculate Bush against much of the Rats trash talk. We get two fresh conservative justices, the dems get the prize of the CJ seat. Now we can look forward to Ginzberg announcing her retirement!

"We should proceed carefully and appropriately in filling these important vacancies. With Justice O'Connor committing to stay until her replacement is named, we can and should remain focused first on protecting our citizens who need help the most," Kennedy said.

Justice OConnor has a terminally ill husband. It is terribly stupid to say she should stay until the Senate rebuilds New Orleans.

So we had a major hurricane affecting one region of the country. The Senate should be capable of multi-tasking by handling one crisis and its normal job of advise and consent on judicial nominees....we normal people do not consider voting on John Robert's nomination require full time crisis managment. The Senate demands and expects no less than handling multiple tasks and jobs from every other branch of Government.

The citizens who need help most are the entire population of the US facing a Supreme Court with two vacancies

NIce try. Bush's job was to nominate, and he has done so. You and the other Senators can sit in Washington and focus on confirming Roberts whils Bush is taking care of the Katrina disaster.
