D.C.'s Rescue Bus Caravan to New Orleans Mired in Cluster Foxtrot

In the category of the road to hell is paved with good intentions, a ten bus caravan headed from Washington, D.C. to bring back 400 Katrina victims from New Orleans is mired in confusion and poor planning somewhere down South.

The rescue caravan, organized by D.C. City Council member David Catania, was reported by WUSA-TV reporter Bruce LeShan to be stopped in the middle of nowhere before reaching its destination.

LeShan, who is stuck on the caravan and called in his report, said there is no gas to be had, no hotels with vacancies and that the drivers pulled over because after being on the road for 24 hours the drivers just couldn't drive anymore.

He also said the buses are old and rickety and can't go very fast.

The caravan was organized independently by Catania without coordination with the federal government.

The WUSA anchor in the Washington studio was stunned at LeShan's report of the cluster foxtrot.

God help the people of New Orleans if those buses do get there. They'll be delivered unto New Orleans on the Potomac.

The rescue caravan, organized by D.C. City Council member

Didn't anyone tell the reporter that using the word "organized" in the same sentence with "D.C. City Council" is automatically an oxymoron?

Let's see. Catania is a raging queen, and he tried to organize a convoy of buses from D.C. to the Gulf Coast. I guess he didn't realize that a successful road march requires military-like planning and preparation. Would YOU want to be in a military convoy planned by this man? Another reason to keep homosexuals out of the armed forces.

Old military axiom...."Amatuers talk tactics. Professionals talk logistics." These people just learned a lesson in logistics.............Polybius

Needs to be repeated from the highest towers.......kingu

Unfortunately, the Liberal News Media and their Sheeple audience have no idea what the word "logistics" means and have zero interest in looking it up in the dictionary.

According to this article in the WaPo, they actually did have a plan...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/02/AR2005090202176.html

D.C. police officers will accompany the buses for security, and each bus will have two drivers so the caravan can drive through the night on its 2,200-mile, round-trip journey.

In addition, a fuel tanker will be in the convoy, ensuring enough fuel without lengthy stops.

City Administrator Robert C. Bobb said the most important thing the convoy can do is cause no harm.

"I've been in enough of these situations where volunteers can become part of the disaster," Bobb said. "That is the last thing we want." He said city emergency management officials have been coordinating with the Red Cross and federal agencies.

"This is not some willy-nilly, do-good, let's-jump-on-buses-and-send-people-to-Louisiana program," Bobb said.

Nope, no "willy-nilly, do-good" stuff here.....

Isn't that the process we've all seen in the movies where they dump the recently cut logs into a river to get them down to the sawmill?

That's what happens when you send boys to do the jobs of men. ''Oh no, I can't find gas, this bus just won't run right.'' Stay home sissies, we Texans will handle this. You'll just be in the way. They're our neighbors and we can take care of them just fine without your interference.

Great line...I can just imagine the reaction of some of the evacuees when they tell them they're getting a free ride to DC....

''Oh no, I can't find gas, this bus just won't run right.''

Somehow I keep getting a mental picture of Nathan Lane's character trying to drive a car in "The Birdcage."

This is why FEMA does not want people coming down to the disaster site willy nilly.

Willy can come, but leave Nilly home. He's more trouble than he's worth.

This reminds of the double decker bus of human shields that left England for Baghdad. What comedy show that was!

"This is not some willy-nilly, do-good, let's-jump-on-buses-and-send-people-to-Louisiana program," Bobb said.

Well, let's see:

Out of gas? Check.

No place to stay? Check.

Drivers too exhausted to drive? Check.

Sure sounds like a "let's-jump-on-buses-and-send-people-to-Louisiana program" to me.

Oh, but they MEANT well!!! Doesn't that count for SOMETHING?

Well, something other than extra MREs, extra water, extra cots in the shelter, extra recovery support when they get their asses stuck in a ditch, extra police to protect their butts.....?

I think a Star Wars quote is in order here.

"I have a bad feeling about this "
