WILLIAM H. REHNQUIST was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 1, 1924. He served in World War II with the Army Air Corps. When the War ended, Rehnquist entered Stanford University and was graduated in 1948 with both an undergraduate and a master’s degree. He earned a second master’s degree from Harvard University in 1950 before enrolling in Stanford University Law School. After graduation from Stanford Law School in 1952, Rehnquist served as law clerk to Supreme Court Associate Justice Robert H. Jackson for the 1952-1953 Term. Rehnquist settled in Phoenix, Arizona, the following year and engaged in the practice of law for sixteen years until 1969, when President Richard M. Nixon appointed him Assistant Attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel in the Department of Justice. On October 21, 1971, President Nixon nominated Rehnquist as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. The Senate confirmed the appointment on December 10, 1971. After serving for fifteen years as an Associate Justice, President Ronald Regan nominated him Chief Justice of the United States on June 17, 1986. The Senate confirmed the appointment on September 17, 1986.

Let's all have a silent moment of prayer to thank God that John F. Kerry is not the President of the United States.

Well the Roberts debate is for all practical purposes over.

Damn shame.

Next up is going to be interesting.

Let the Games begin!

I will pray for his family. I wish he had had some retirement time to spend with his family before the end. Although I'm thinking he wanted to work to keep his mind off the cancer.

God rest his soul. So much has happened in the last few years. I believe as strongly as ever that God does indeed bless our Nation. He put a good man at the helm.

Just... damn. Well he said he wasn't going to retire. I had an inkling that his illness was too serious for him to survive for very long based on what information I was able to gain. I'm sorry he's been lost and wasn't able to make it to his 20th year as Chief Justice.

That's TWO important SCOTUS appointments Bush *must* get right just in order to maintain the status quo of he court.

RIP, William H Rehnquist.

Just read. Condolences to the family. The judge was a good and noble man that fought for traditional American values and morales. His shoes as the Chief of SCOTUS will be hard to fill.
Thank-you Judge Rhenquist for your service and devotion.

May God be with his family. He was a good man.

And prayers for the President. I have no clue how this man faces the responsibilities he bears with such courage in the face of shrill absurd hatred from his enemies. We are blessed to have him.

Together with Scalia and Thomas, he was one of the best justices. May God bless his soul.
