Important Statement From NRA Chief Lobbyist and Chairman of NRA’s Political Action Committee Chris W. Cox on Virginia’s Gubernatorial Race

Tuesday, August 30, 2005

The National Rifle Association-Political Victory Fund would like to congratulate Jerry Kilgore on the successful launch of “Sportsmen for Kilgore.”

Every election year, many candidates work overtime to persuade hunters, sportsmen and gun owners to vote for them.  While some, like Tim Kaine, try to bury anti-freedom and gun control records with rosy rhetoric and glossy photo-ops; others do have a proven record of helping advance and preserve the Second Amendment rights of law abiding Americans.

Jerry Kilgore is one of these good candidates.  Unlike Tim Kaine, Jerry’s rhetoric matches his record.  Analysis of his distinguished record of public service will reveal that Jerry Kilgore is sincere in both word and deed.  He is trustworthy.  And because of this, I believe Jerry is a man Virginia hunters, sportsmen and gun owners can trust to help safeguard the hunting heritage in the Old Dominion.

I urge all Virginia hunters, sportsmen and gun owners to get active in “Sportsmen for Kilgore.”  Get two bumper stickers and share one with a neighbor.  Put a Kilgore sign in your front yard.  Let them know that because leadership and trust matter in this race, you’re strongly supporting Jerry Kilgore for Governor.

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen`s group.  Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and advocates enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime.  The Association remains the nation`s leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military.

Kaine has a "sportsmen for Kaine". He talks about "sporting" outings to high-class hotels in Virginia which run "sportsmen" outings for thousands of dollars.

He wants to close the gun-show "loophole". The "sportsmen for Kaine" booth at a local gunshow was selling a rifle, using the "loophole".

Democrats who oppose changing the gun show law are heartened though because Kaine has promised that while he wants to close the loophole, he won't submit legislation to do so (although he would sign it).

This goes with his other deeply held views, where he is opposed to abortion but won't propose laws and won't sign them even if Roe is overturned; And he is opposed to the death penalty but has promised as governor not to grant clemency to act on his anti-death-penalty deeply held belief. Although he would sign a law which banned the death penalty.

Kaine For Governor -- He'll abandon his deeply held beliefs to get elected! Will his opponent do that for you?
