He also made some brief comments to the press at the White House before he left for the hurricane areas. I didn't see this, but some Freepers were complaining that it was too short, that he could've said more.
Someone pointed out that that would've been Clinton's response, to give a 20 minute "I feel your pain" speech, which would've accomplished nothing. Thanks goodness that W is the opposite of Clinton--in every way :) He's an action president, not a talking president.
The trouble is the media see a 20 minute I feel your pain speech as caring and action whereas a 2 minute I off to see it for myself as dismissing and uncaring, crazy but we we live in this crazy PC world whatever side of the pond we are.
I would not criticize GWB especially on this thread but sometimes one has to weigh the 2 up as to what in the long run gets the most done through favourable reporting. I personally prefer GWB style but others want long explanations and details even where they are are not beneficial either from time aspect or security aspect.
