I reached that conclusion from two facts: about 100,000 children depended on the buses, and school buses carry everyone at one time, not multiple trips. Second, there are about 100,000 people left in New Orleans. Therefore, the buses would have been sufficient for everyone.
But that only could have happened if the Mayor had gotten his head out of his *ss and used the 24 hours after he belatedly ordered an evacuation, to order drivers to bring the buses to high ground, and all residents to meet the buses there.
The New Orleans press would have reported the gathering of the buses would have sent an inescapable message, which would have been, "Hump yourself and your family to the Dome, and GET ON THE BUS if you want to live."
The Mayor is at worst an incompetent buffoon, at best a criminal. Yet given the behavior of some of his Looter/Voters, he does properly represent his constituents.

Thanks Congressman.
These are crucial points:
A] New Orleans is a younger than average city--and there are a LOT of school busses.
B] New Orleans has an EXTREMELY HIGH percentage of people that use public transportation and so there are a lot of passenger busses.
C] Tons of school busses + tons of city busses = the ability to evacuate the city if Nagin did not have his head in his butt.
President Bush gave the order to evacuate and the governor of LA then ordered it.
This data here and these facts are crucial in helping to understand this tragedy--the locals are to blame--period!
This is why FACTS and must be injected into all this screaming and hollering and hysteria.
I think these facts and demographics are extremely important.
