Why in this world, are you all having to take 100000 ? How can Texas absorbed all of these people? This is going to be a long term problem.

Within two years of the Mariel Cuban boatlift about 40% were dead , mostly from killing each other..Miami had to rent freezers for their morgue at times...

it is. I think this Texas situation is going to get ugly in the next 2 weeks. I expect that what will happen, is that the people like Jackson and Sharpton will argue that these people should simply be given public assistance: housing, welfare, food stamps - and just be allowed to enter the regular texas populace in Houston, San Antonio, etc.

Yes. The evacuation and relocation of a city of over a million, wehre a significant fraction is thugs, is a long-term problem.

These refugees (and yes, they fit the dictionary definition of refugees - but if they prefer, we can call them "displaced persons") from New Orleans are going to be the Okies of this generation, the wanderers from the Dustbowl - every one of our states, many of our towns will eventually be touched by them as they are gradually dispersed and re-absorbed into society - at first they will place an extra demand on our social/medical services, but after a while most of them will be productive citizens. But there will be some "growing pains" and we all need to prepare for that with some measure of patience and compassion.
