I have been repeatedly thankful that we have not had to face the situation of Al Gore handling this. Ugh!!

In all seriousness, I will be interested to see what California does. My fear is that the NIMBY mentality will dominate the major metropolitan ares.

Quick question
Just listening to Nagin on FOX. Currently he is the mayor. How long is his term? When is he up for re-election?

I can find the answers to those questions, but thinking of those led me to wonder this:

Cleanup will be a massive undertaking. I believe it will take longer than the mayor's term. The citizens will be scattered far and wide.

What happens to local government? Does he hold onto the "leadership" position? What happens when there is no population for the local government to represent?
