Plugging 17th St was just a show. The water was actually draining out. In fact the Corps now intends to blow new holes in the levees to let more water out.

Blowing up "bayou savage" would lower the lake and city even faster, but hurt birds.

Rumor has it that said bayou is about to get blown in the interests of time. The EPA is off taking a hike, remember?

Won't this make it harder to pump things out below sea level? Or are they planning to rebuild the levees before they do that anyway [which may be a good idea, since I have no idea if they'd ever be able to withstand a pressure differential again].
