Can't run an AC unit on a gas generator for very long without blowing up the generator.

WHAT? Our 8000 watter($999 in 1999) saved us grief for nearly 2 weeks after Claudette killed power and for 2 days after a tornado took out an entire line of poles another time.

Powered: one 6000 BTU window unit in our largest bedroom, fridg, freezer, satellite, PC for internet, one box fan, three flourescent-bulbed lamps. No problems. All of the above are swapped when the water well is neededd(disconnect home, use 220 plug for water well). It has more than paid for itself many times.

A must-have out here....plus about 5 ~ 10 five gallon gas cans.

OK, I forgot that people actually use AC units that are less than 15K BTUH.

*Most* gas generators (yours is larger than most) have some severe problems with being run for an extended period of time with that kind of draw.
