It's a horrible situation and I don't believe they could have done everything mistake free. Seems they would have at least had emergency supplies and relocation areas more readily available.
Yeah, they ONLY had 250 shelter sites set up with meals and water... before the hurricane ever hit. They're feeding and sheltering ONLY hundreds of thousands of people.
But of course, that's not where the cameras go. The cameras go to the places where the people refused to leave.
They did have emergency supplies pre-staged; but as I said before, as far as evacuation is concerned, there are always going to be a large number of people who won't go, for whatever reason, and because of the geographical situation NO is in, that put them in a world of hurt - so now they and the media are falling back on the old Bush-bashing game.
The notion that the federal government could just teleport every living soul of out metro NO in a few hours in nonsense; if any more could have been done, it could only have been done by the city and state, not the feds.
The city should have had some pre-positioned in the various shelters. As for the federal supplies, they had to be far enough away to be safe from the storm. Too close and they would have been destroyed along with everything else.
