President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

I agree with Richard Simmons: Due so many factors, NO will be raised, again. I've never doubted this. And still don't. Getting it raised will be part of the battle. It's going to be costly, no doubts. But worth it.

Of course, if the libs now wanna go on board with ANWAR. And if CA Dems would allow for offshore drilling... Perish the notion! Gay Marriage is FAR more important to them.

Laura Ingraham must pick up on this celine breakdown, it fits right in with her "shut up and sing" book. can someone email Laura's program?

here we had the largest military airlift in history today, and LKL let's this lunatic come on and say "they can send planes to bomb people but can't deliver water".

Oh. Typical. She can't think of much to say, ergo, "EMOTE".

I can just hear secular religionists all around the nation.. back brain muttering to themselves... "And Jesus Wept". gross.

its worse really, what she said about the US military. even in the war zones like iraq, the humanitarian mission is a huge part of their jobs everyday. it was a revolting comment.

"I don't suppose he has cared to notice... the people flying the helicopters and driving the boats to save people are predominantly white."
Disagree. They are ALL American. Please do not play into the race bait.

Did anyone see Magic Johnson on LKL? I was surprisingly impressed. He said that during 9/11 Rudy Guiliani had a plan and during this tragedy there was no plan. He said that local, state and federal government has to work together. I was pleased. I was expecting him to just bash the feds but instead he complimented Rudy on his leadership.

No wonder he is such a good businessman.
