President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

I saw his dramatics last night on O'Reilly's. JMJ, beyond drama queen into the realm of psychotic freaks.

post #5174!!!!! so I will remember U.S. Senator Landrieu words.

""Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment. The good and decent people of southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast - black and white, rich and poor, young and old - deserve far better from their national government," Landrieu said. "

Yes. They are. Sometimes, I suspect the MSM of giving all this "great air time" to the liberals, just so more and more people can actually hear how whacked these people are. Kinda of "aversion therapy".

Katrina continues to point out an obvious thing: What you believe and how you behave before a crisis is a pretty good indicator of what you'd believe and how you'd behave during a crisis.

Libs have gone hysterical. And they are hysterical during non-crisis times.

The Same analogy applies to cyber. Of course this also means that the MSM giving "uber" air time to liberals "during an event" must also be supporting liberals during no event times.

In either case, he who is faithful in small is faithful in large is very true, IMHO.

My mood has lifted.

My husband just made me die laughing. He got out clothes for the, well, Hurricane people since I can't say refugees.

He brought out like 10 Brooks Bros dress shirts and four fabulous suits. I was laughing so hard I couldn't stand up. We are gonnna have upscale refugees for sure. And some unworn cole Haan loafers with tassels.

I told him our refugees would probably go for something a little more cutting edge.

That man just slays me.

Landrieu. That... that (nevermind). Am I out of line here in thinking Bush should jail her for the duration of this thing?

One of the guests on Fox this morning detailed how the New Orleans Levee Board misspent money for decades, buying things like casinos, hotels, powerboats, etc. That would be a good angle for the archivists. :-)

well, talk radio began the counter attack yesterday. they realized this "drop the politics" theme wasn't going to work. the Dems started it, its time for the counter attack. It will take time to get some voices out there, the MSM will focus on using Vitters as the "Chuck Hagle" for Katrina. we just have to keep battling. and Bush needs to do a daily briefing, like the one he did today, he has to do that every day and focus on the positive things being done.

Perhaps a more pertainent question is:
How is our republic going to withstand this onslaught? The president is a big boy. Not all of our Americans are. Dispair does not help. Nor does political polarization.
Only my 2 cents.

My husband wants to know where you go for target practice?

He is intrigued. We don't even have a gun except for his bee bee gun from childhood. He sent me to learn to shoot when we came down here. My daughter and I went and took lessons. I was okay but she was very good. She grew up in the east and said she loved to shoot but felt guilty about it. She said her friends up north would be shocked. She really could hit things.
