President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

we predicted that long ago here. the looting and the snipers doesn't fit into the script they are trying to sell about it all being Bush's fault, so they will simply omit it in the recap.

I don't think that contamination is an issue upriver.

Could be wrong but other than minute amounts carried on the hulls of barges, I don't see a mechanism.

Currently? I don't know.

IMO, Bush's POV is that finger pointing detracts from precious time to respond to the essential rescue operations. In this I would agree with him.

But I'd agree with you as well that allowing unaswered for a long time was not helpful.

The trouble is that Bush shouldn't have to be the one to take time from rescue/relief to address politization. Other Republicans with time on their hands should have filled this role, but as usual, they were hiding afraid of whichever way the political wind blows. meanwhile with exception of a few nuMedia sources and us, no one was taking them on immediately either.

I will provide there were exceptions. The Governors involved took the media on fearlessly. In the midst of dealing with the destruction, they actually stood for the President and got Truth out.

But where were the Senators and members of the House? Calling for hearings.

No, I turned it off. He started off by saying he participated in a table top drill 12 years ago so he knew something about the situation. Basically someone asked Blanco a tough question and she pushed him in front of her.

I think the reality of just how inept the democratic politicians in Louisiana are is beginning to set in among them.

That is so funny, " Water world" rings a bell. I wonder if he can get "Flipper " to be his City Manager? He is ready for the "rubber Room", I wonder if it is water proof? This is probably "serious as cancer" to quote James Traficant, but we need a little levity.

Landrieux has been occupying her time calling for a new Cabinet position to be in charge of all affected regions across the states. Nevermind Miss and Alabama don't seem to have an absence of leadership.

LOL. My friend in Houma thinks they are delaying the power to keep people from Houma and westward from finding out how they screwed this all up. It's not too far-fetched. My friend also thinks Blanco is a stooge for the imprisoned Eddie Edwards. LOL!
