President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Wonder if I should buy a gun. If this city blows it won't be pretty.

Why buy just one? They're like tools. What's good for one task may not be suitable for another. Exercise your 2nd rights often.

Not to mention the fact that had it been asked I am 100% positive that other counties/states would have provided busses to help transport people out. Probably still would too.

Thank you. I tend to see things from a psychological point of view. What makes people do the things they do? What motivates them? I have to admit I'm having trouble with the animals running around with AK 47s.

That isn't pressure.

I think it needs to be understood there is a differnece between pressure, and hysteria. O'Reilly, believe it or not, demonstrated that difference today on his show.

Hells bells, of course I'm not there, neither are you. And it is a human tragedy.

But the key question is: did you hear Shep's comments on Hannity?
That is what I am referring to.

It's a disgusting disgrace to see those people still on those highway overpasses with NO information, no food no water?

Among other things, there's been this teensy matter of a few hundred equal-opportunity snipers ...

(but you already knew that)

"FNC needs to get rid of the drama queens and leave the reporting to the professionals like Steve Harrigan."

That's it!! I totally agree with you. DRAMA Queens great description of the those two bozos. I much prefer
Steve Harrigan. He is right on with his reporting. Unlike the 2 bozos trying to make themselves THE story during America's greatest disaster.

But the response to this; from the Mayor of NO, the parish councilmen, governors, FEMA, all the way up to the highest levels of our government has been beyond slow, It’s been deplorable.

Remember, there was still a hurricane in Miss. till early Tues. morning. The looting had started right in the middle of the strike on NO if I remember correctly. The antisocial elements had the jump on things. It has been less than 4 days. The scope of damage is enormous and though instant media means we all see what is happening and can all pretty much figure out what should be done, IT STILL TAKES TIME TO GET THINGS DONE! I think it is remarkable that the Army Corp of Eng. has gotten the levee breaks under control. (I can't see what good it does though since the pressures were pretty well equalized and I would guess the repairs will now just end up not letting water flow out but I suppose not much would flow out since the city is in a bowl). I think the main humanitarian focus should still be on finding survivors in flooded buildings. And I accept the slow process of moving out refugees if they can get a handle on isolating the thugs to get them some rehabilitation.

you Texas folks are going to have some new residents. I only hope that somehow, they do something to filter out the thugs at the superdome who were responsible for the violence there - or did they just take those people along for the ride to the Astrodome?

Ya know, that was a little ridiculous. Isn't it obvious that you shouldn't be judgemental about something you are fortunate enough not to be experiencing? In other words, lay off the attacks of ANYONE that is there. Sheesh!

He couldn't get a word in edgewise. I've seen that guy before and he never lets anyone talk, just spews his hatred of white people. Everyone like to think white people are prejudiced, I submit there is no more racist organization than the Black Caucus, NAACP, etc.

Have you all seen the photo of the school buses just standing in water?

Why weren't these buses used to get people out over the weekend?

Here's a link to the photo (not posting photo so it won't slow the thread down):

Have just a teensy weensy little bit of heart. You aren't there. He is.

Yes. I agree. Something is not right with the relief effort. Is there anyone who could report from the city that people here might believe? And, btw, BOR is callous and lacking empathy on the plight of women, children and old folks.
