SACRAMENTO -- Facing widespread opposition to his special election, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Friday that if voters reject a proposed spending restraint on the November ballot, he might be forced to raise taxes.
Schwarzenegger previewed a campaign theme in a morning radio interview, predicting that new taxes might be the only alternative if voters reject Proposition 76, the "Live Within Our Means" act.
Asked on Sacramento station KTKZ-1380 AM what he might do to avert future budget deficits if the spending control is defeated, Schwarzenegger said:
"Then we have to look at raising taxes, because this is the only option we have, in order to create the money. And this is why I tell people vote yes on Proposition 76 and make sure that we do everything that we can to pass this proposition so that we force our legislators once and for all to live within their means and not to continue spending money and to keep making promises to people that they can't keep."
Schwarzenegger's comments came amid a new statewide poll showing little appetite for the Nov. 8 special election that he depicts as central to his "year of reform" agenda.

Still ignoring that MORE DEBT thing, huh? Figures.
In reverse order -
"Selectively choosing which posts to respond to, huh?"
Always consider yourself honored when I respond to you at all :-)
"I do note that you got very silent when I pointed out that the "spending cap" includes yet MORE DEBT!"
So ? Did you seriously expect the Gov to be able to say " OK, tomorrow, nobody comes to work until we are even" ?
( assuming you make an exception for the accountants who would have to figure out just when we WERE even, including the unemployment costs, the lawsuits that were lost because we didn't pay the lawyers to be there in front of the judges who didn't show up - all the plaintifs did )
BTW - you seem to have avoided the question of the existance of "right wing crazies".
Problem with that one ?
>>>I can't remember positively... wasn't Prop 54 championed by that champion of justice, Ward Connerly?
One and the same!
The one where you ask others what you are thinking?
Sheesh... if you don't know what you're thinking, how the heck are we supposed to know?
OK - I'll try to type slower -
Does a catagory that YOU feel could be termed right wing crazies" or perhaps "fanatical conservatives" exist ?
These would include on the outer edge people who think that actions such as the abortion clinic bombings, or the killing of abortion doctors is OK.
Well, DUH! There are extremists of all colors.
I haven't seen any on this thread, so what is your point?
This reminds me of my home town years ago when people got fed up with the cost of city government and out of nowhere a "house painter" ran for Mayor and won.
With his lack of political savvy and his common sense abundant, he vetoed EVERY spending bill (in between house painting projects) regardless of content and then got reelected 4 years later.
The city dwellers were pleased until the outside political crones moved in and stifled his chances for another reelection.
Thank you !
Seriously - you are the first person on this thread to acnowledge that fanatical conservatives ( aka "right wing crazies") DO exist !
I applaud your courage to acnowledge reality.
Who here, when Arnold used the term "right wing crazies" thinks he was refering to you ?
Defensive posting....and a posting lacking pragmatic thought.
Interesting story - when and what town ?
Vetoing EVERY spending bill for 8 years would have shut down every city function - it almost looks like a made-for-tv movie as to what happened...
It didn't and most were sad to see him leave the position of Mayor.
"Defensive posting....and a posting lacking pragmatic thought."
... and your point is ...?
"It didn't and most were sad to see him leave the position of Mayor."
So... where , when, ?
It's bordering on irrelevant to the subject of the thread and is showing to be an emotional post which is not conducive to the promotion of the life of this thread. (IMO)

LOL - you jumped in to say that ?
... better the thread died rather then put up with your pontification on a subject you seem to have limited knowledge of...
It wasn't in CA, however the point of my posting was, political agenda leads to political priority and this priority appears to be a major concern to CA for even after the removal of a sitting Governor to alleviate pertinent financial issues, politics reigns high with the people of CA, thus politics is what they get.
In the case of the "painter" becoming Mayor, it wasn't because he was considered the best "politician" for the job, it was because he was deemed the best person for the job because of his lack of political savvy.
I hope my reply is reasonable to you and isn't considered lacking of substance.
>>I applaud your courage to acnowledge reality.
I never had a problem with reality.
Now, about our leftist governor... Higher debt, higher spending, socialistic land graps, leftist appointments, stem-cell research scams, assault weapon bans, taxpayer subsidized solar roofs and hydrogen highways... etc. etc. etc.
There you have it. Just acknowledging reality.
"I hope my reply is reasonable to you and isn't considered lacking of substance."
It might have more substance if it had any substance besides your saying so ... is there a problem providing the details of where and when this occured ?
