Thank-you mablekitty....I needed encouraging news this AM..... that all the lies MSM report will not stand!

Sad that the Red Cross worker has to defend their efforts.....

...sad that good hearted folk across this country who are volunteering....(I heard 400 ann hour at the Astrodome) will be ignored by the MSM so they can show/print angry Bush bashing stories instead....

...but you gave me good news, and we can only pray the good will outshine the bad, that the good will be made known.

The next time I hear some barking moonbat trying to blame President Bush for what's going on down on the gulf coast, I'm going to agree with them, saying, "you know, you're right. The President should have stepped in sooner, federalizing the local police and the national guard, taking them out of the control of the innept and corrupt democratic state and local governments, and actually getting them in there to take care of the people. It's a shame that the dems had to kill all those people, just because they didn't know what to do."

I have said it before and I'll say it again, if the liberal Democrats were in charge this is an outstanding example of what the country would be in for if any disaster/war happened. They do not believe in being prepared for anything, they have no plan for anything that might happen. Two more terms of the same as the two Clinton terms and we would be in shambles.

No kidding... I fear for any "real" disaster to befall Kansas City. The government's been run by dems for as long as anyone can remember, and over the years they've taken patronage and corruption to new levels. All I know is that I decided some time ago to always keep a few weeks worth of food and water on hand, just in case!

I also don't understand why food and water wasn't dropped down......

When you're taking small arms fire from the ground, it sorta discourages you . . .

Mr. J.W. Marriott. Many years ago when Marriott owned Bob's Big Boy restaurants, I worked there. Mr. J.S. Marriott came in with his entourage. He's not the head of a first rate corporation for nothing.

GOD BLESS HIM

Delta Airlines cancelled our flight from Orlando to Atlanta 3 weeks ago. Left us in the Orlando Airport for 12 hours. We had to raise a huge stink. We finally got free meal coupons for our party.

Hell of a day. I heard Delta is in financial trouble.

"Well, there was some leadership in Louisianna after all, but it was at the corporate, not state or local governmental level..."

I heard also that the Ritz and Hyatt did the same thing either on Tues or Wed. I read that one of the hotels rented buses that FEMA hijacked for an unknown purpose. I always wondered why, if the news can get in where is FEMA and help. At least water!!

Oh my. Why do I get the feeling that this all boils down to money? And look who will and who won't spend it to help people. The local government is sitting on their thumbs while corporate America, in the name of Marriot Corp, are going in and doing the job of getting people out and safe.

Yeah. Big business sucks. /sarcasm

Stories like this are gonna kill NO for travellers -- if she ain't already dead.

Did you see the pictures of the NO school buses that could have been put to use BEFORE the hurricane?

There they sit, thanks to the "party machine" in inaction.

That picture is the definition of stupidity and ineptitude. I guess the mayor was waiting for "permission" to use them. My guess is that the mayor was waiting for the Federal government to say they'd foot the bill of an evacuation - but that's just my guess. Maybe she feared she would lose her salary if she spent too much taking care of her constituents. Obviously we havent' yet found the point where she's willing to say "Forget what it costs me, I have to take care of this," Wonder if she's equipped with that little thingy?

I cannot cast too much blame on these people. They did the best that they could under the circumstances.

I agree about not casting blame per se as I wasn't there and don't know the details of their decision making process. I just think I may have made a different decision under the circumstances,

We feel the same as you. We have always loved NO and go there once a year to eat, listen to the music, walk and enjoy the city (not to drink and get drunk). I am heart broken at the loss of this city but I am not surprised at any of this corruption and ineptitude. *sob*

...it is a citizen's responsibility to maintain a firearm in his or her home, and to know how to use it.

Right-o!

It is also their responsibility to have a stock of food, water and essentials to be able to survive until help arrives. Of course, tourists usually can't do that, so they have to fall back on the responsibility of their hotels (a dubious proposition).

It is obvious many of the citizens of New Orleans (those who didn't evacuate) failed the first test. Their local and state government officials failed the rest of them. The feds did what they said they would - arrive with help within the week.

Personally, we are well stocked to survive any disaster at home for an extended period of time, including self-defense. If our house is uninhabitable, we can survive in our backyard. If we have to leave the immediate area, we have bug out gear and gasoline for our car. If we are forced to leave without a car or have to leave the car on the way, we can walk and carry the essentials we need to survive for that.

Everybody should sit down and game-play their plan for disaster, whether man-made or natural. They need to do it well before even the hint of a coming disaster.

Most people don't have a plan - except run to the store ahead of time to buy some milk and bread and perhaps some water (a waste of money). This assumes they have warning. Otherwise, they are clueless. We observed this during Hurricane Ivan when our neighborhood was badly damaged. Even though our house was badly damaged, we did fine while others just milled around and knew not what to do. Fortunately for them, after a day or two, they were able to drive to where there was power and they could buy a restaurant meal.

The government may not be able to protect or save you. It is obvious the people of NO thought the government was capable and willing to do both. Big mistake. That is one mistake we do not plan to make. There probably are a lot of New Orleans survivors who will not make it again either. But I suspect most of them will just bitch loudly about how they were let down by George Bush and return to their welfare plantation.

It seems to me that the Governor and Mayor did call for help, but somewhere in the higher ups, they wanted to wait for what ever they wanted. They just let people die because of beaucracy.
