Nobody was surprised that state Sen. Carole Migden voted in favor of her own cosmetics bill. The problem was that she did it in the wrong legislative house. Toward the end of Wednesday's floor session, Migden, a San Francisco Democrat, pushed the voting button of a GOP assemblyman who was temporarily away from his desk.
Her action violated Assembly rules and drew an angry response from Republicans.
"That behavior cannot be tolerated," said Assembly Republican leader Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield. "It's unheard of on this floor, it's against the rules, and it cannot be tolerated."
Migden, chairwoman of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, declined to comment Thursday about her actions on the Assembly floor the previous day. "There's no story there," she said.
Controversy erupted while Migden was lobbying for her Senate Bill 484, which would require manufacturers to inform the state about cancer-causing chemicals in cosmetics.
Assembly Democratic and Republican leaders agree on the following chain of events: Migden was visiting the Assembly, seeking support for her bill, and she inappropriately pushed the electronic button of GOP Assemblyman Guy Houston.
She later apologized for her actions, leaders of both parties said.

Like Kevin Shelly, another product of San FRancisco.
Why hasn't she been fired?
A crooked trial lawyer "voting" for a bill near and dear to the corrupt shyster industry.
Migden is a POS. This does not surprise me at all.
A crooked trial lawyer "voting" for a bill near and dear to the corrupt shyster industry.
This happens all the time in all the states and Congress.
Why hasn't she been arrested?
That about covers it.
"Oh, I got caught? In THAT case, I'm sorry. There is no story here."
I'm more annoyed that time (and money) is being wasted on a "cosmetics bill". Go work for Avon or else stop wasting our tax dollars.
Sigh.
"Because she later apologized?"

The issue here is one of a vast amount of money: Trial lawyers suing cosmetics companies for cancer cases!
A democrat...stop reading.
"The issue here is one of a vast amount of money: Trial lawyers suing cosmetics companies for cancer cases!"
Nice how they cloak it with an innocuous generic name like her "cosmetics bill". Like it's to protect us from bad cosmetics but it's all about makework for chronies, follow the lawyer money...</p> BUMP
Well, the person whose button she pished should have walked over to the congresswoman's seat and pushed her button as no. Would that not have been funny, to have you recorded as voting against your bill?
Actually I take it back. This person has won the right to sponsor whatever bill she wants despite my predjudice.
I wonder what consequences apply for her now? Reprimand? Probation?
