BTW: When the (admittedly small) Harlem Riot occurred in 1964 or '65 (can't remember), the NYPD decided to do a "baton charge" all in a line. Of course the looters simply got out of the way and ran through the side streets, breaking windows along the way.
Kelly's good. So was Bratton. And that other guy, can't remember his name, who never made PC, but knew technology and was a good cop. Actually, I think he ended up in NO, if memory serves.
I see the NYPD having a couple of landmarks in the 20th century. Knapp/Serpico was one, and then the Kelly/Bratton years was another.
