I don't think Bush can do anything that will please these people. You see this was Mother Nature and yet they are blaming him. No matter what he does it will be citied and knocked down by these people!

This just goes to show you how dependent on government much of the American populace has become.Well no offense, but considering the actions of the federal government over the past 50 years, do you blame the majority of the population (including most Republicans) from having that view? Mind you, I don't agree with it, but even on this forum I've seen the same sort of complaints on many things the government shouldn't have any business in.

I'm really trying to pull for GWB, but his handling of major crisis issues lately leaves a lot to be desired..
What other major crisis issues?

Get a grip. We are three days out from a Biblical catastrophe. Help is arriving. New Orleans screwed up, not President Bush. We are now learning that the City Of New Orleans used the Superdome twice before as a hurricane shelter and had disastrous results both times. Local planners had recommended against using it again. Why did they do it anyway? Is this Bush's fault? How fast do you think Navy ships can get from Jacksonville and Norfolk all the way to New Orleans? Are we supposed to just have them sitting around idle in the Gulf of Mexico waiting for a 200-year catastrophic hurricane? How do you airlift supplies for a million people when there are no workable airstrips within 100 miles? How do you truck them in when all the bridges and roads are destroyed?
Just curious as to what you would have done differently.

That was flat out embarrassing. What the hell was that?Michael Brown, on the TODAY show, basically admitted that he was clueless going in, and is still clueless. Katie Couric had him cornered like a whipped dog.
I'm beginning to turn on this thing. If there is not some visible presence of the Guard and the Military today, and the sky is not filled with helicopters and the ground covered with buses, then one has to conclude that nobody is in charge.

I, personally, am outraged at the state of unpreparedness in NO, and the utter lack of planning for a possible worst case scenario, when it was predicted to happen.
And as far as what's happening in NO, it's not happening in Mississippi.
I think most average Americans see the issues for what they are, NO is a city filled with a criminal element, as was admitted in the NO mayor's rant.
He said their murder rate was high, drugs had overrun the city, etc. etc.
My question is, they are carping about the number of murders and rapes taking place, but what are the actual statistics for the number of murders and rapes that happen in NO on any given day. Betcha it's higher than it has been since the hurricane.
I feel sorry for the innocent, but the problems in NO began long before the hurricane.

Is it going to be another fluff speech or is actually going to announce that we're sending in the 101st to clean house?Have you actually kept up with events in New Orleans or do you just like asking silly questions like that.
There have been two Homeland Security press briefings this week which make it pretty clear why the military cannot, by law, operate within the United States, in a law enforcement function, unless martial law is declared. National Guard and Coast Guard do not fall within that law and can operate with law enforcement.

I hope he comes out and says"With this pen i put on hold all federal gas tax until this crisis is over."
But hey i can dream right?

Bush IS failing. The State and Local governments HAVE failed. Tens of thousands of repeatedly warned citizens FAILED to evacuate. And now gang members, looters, rapists and snipers are FAILING to obey the law. That's the story here.
To: whitecastle1968
When you calm down and think about things you will realize that the problem, the main problem is the lawless gangs stopping relief efforts. That was not fore seen, and maybe it should have been. I hope the feds get medieval on those gang bangers butts.

The President spoke BRIEFLY before getting on Marine One. He will have more extensive remarks when he arrives in New Orleans. This was NOT his major speech of the day. Get off his back!!!

"However, we sometimes want and expect our President to offer comforting words."
This ain't the time. There ARE no "comforting" words to be said at this point, other than to list the things that are being done. The president is doing that.
