New Orleans in Anarchy With Fights, Rapes

By ALLEN G. BREED, Associated Press Writer 55 minutes ago

NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans descended into anarchy Thursday as corpses lay abandoned in street medians, fights and fires broke out, cops turned in their badges and the governor declared war on looters who have made the city a menacing landscape of disorder and fear.

"They have M-16s and they're locked and loaded," Gov. Kathleen Blanco said of 300 National Guard troops who landed in New Orleans fresh from duty in Iraq. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will."

Four days after Hurricane Katrina roared in with a devastating blow that inflicted potentially thousands of deaths, the fear, anger and violence mounted Thursday.

You got that right. What she says now and what she would say if they shot someone are two different things.

She would be behind you all right, with a stabbing knife between the shoulder blades.

I thought I saw on the news that the "Iwo Jima" Was in the Gulf. That has a Marine Expeditionary Unit on it.
2200 battle hardened Marines could do a lot to get the
looting and violence under control. My memory is a little vague but I think years ago in the Detroit riots the
National Guard and a unit of the regular army (82nd airborne I think) fresh back from Vietnam were sent in. From my memory the paratroopers got things under control in their section real quick. The NG had trouble with snipers but the combat veteran Army unit handled the snipers easily. Maybe some freepers have a better knowledge of this. I was just a teenager at the time.

REad that closely.

She does not exactly order "shoot to kill"

I think she thinks they will do so, dying to do so {blood thirsty soldiers you know} and will do so without her having to give an order.

Those are weasel words

I don't like her characterization of the guardsman.

REad it, that is despicable. She is acting as if they are just wanting to kill Americans.

This is a profoundly disturbing quote to me.

Am I nuts here?

"These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will..."

Then after they do we will charge them with murder and call them racists.

No you are not nuts at all.

You must remember that she is a Democrat and she really feels that the Guardsmen who served in Iraq just went around shooting people for the fun of it.

Even though she needs the military it doesnt stop her from hating them. She and the Mayor are totally incompetent, some of the Police in New Orleans have been seen looting themselves about half of them didnt even show up for work, what a city. Truly a Sodom on the Mississippi.

I wish journalists would report on how law enforcement is afraid to shoot any looter or criminal because of the fear of political correctness and/or being labeled (or prosecuted) under the guise of a hate crime.

I wish they would report the fact that no criminal is afraid of anyone who has a gun but won't shoot. These animals know that and that's why anarchy is present in New Orleans.

Better yet, the news media should make a special detailing just where political correctness, destruction of our moral fabric and political manipulation of race has done to us.

This is a perfect example of more to come.

the governor declared war on looters

Oh goody. Just in time. Good thing she made this decision before things got out of hand.

The woman belongs in jail. People are dead because of her.

She belongs jailed for neglect, abuse and death of her constituents. She did nothing assist in the evacuation of thousands of people.

Nagin got his family out on Friday, but didn't issue an evacuation order for the city until Sunday. They didn't want to lose the Saturday night revenue.

The lack of a plan prior to the hurricane and the lack of leadership afterwards is unforgivable.

Not exactly the same as saying "I have given orders to shoot to kill".

Very good point. She has weaseled and not taken a stand by saying: "I have given orders for all looters to be shot."

She has delegated to the NG to make the decision and take the responsibility. Based on this NG will be too cautious and I don't blame them.

Another version of this statement said, to paraphrase, "They will shoot when I give the order." Is she going to give the order? The criminals involved here won't stop until there are people in their faces with assault rifles. And the criminals are not listening to Blanco on the radio or TV. They have no electricity.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco said of 300 National Guard troops who landed in New Orleans fresh from duty in Iraq.

In a similar story 300 ACLU lawyers fresh from tearing off crosses on city symbols are locked and loaded for massive lawsuits should even one of the perps be shot.

I don't have a link, but I have been told that there were 6 reported rapes that took place in the Houston Astro Dome last night. Anyone with a link to that story out of Houston? The savagery continues.
