Ted Koppel blames Bush for failure to evacuate poor prior to the Katrina hitting New Orleans
2 Sep 2005 | Philip Freneau

Posted on 09/01/2005 9:33:54 PM PDT by PhilipFreneau

Tonight on Nightline, during an inteview with the FEMA director, Ted Koppel demanded to know why the Bush Administration did not send fleets of buses into New Orleans to evacuate those too poor to evacuate themselves -- PRIOR TO KATRINA HITTING NEW ORLEANS.

For previous hurricanes the Federal Government did not participate in evacuations, only in clean up and recovery. That did not seem to matter much to Koppel since he obviously knew that Mike Brown was too much of a gentleman to smack him for attempting to deceived the American people.

However, Koppel does have a point, in a way. The Bush Administration should have known the Louisiana and New Orleans governments would be too incompetent to do anything right, and should have planned for it.

Case closed. That picture says it all. Koppel was ignorant. Alas, he wasn't called on it.

On Friday, or Saturday, or Sunday the Governor of Louisiana could have, as she did today finally, commandeered all the school busses in Louisiana to take people out of there. The fact is that neither the city of New Orleans or the state of Louisiana had any evacuation plan, other than traffic control. Those two, even after deciding everyone in New Orleans should leave, made no special plans to evacuate people from New Orleans hospitals. Knowing they did not evacuate the hospitals, the Governor did not even use the national guard to get emergency generators delivered to the hospitals. So, how were the mayor and the Governor planning on dealing with the wounded after the storm?

You got it. It was not their problem, leave it for the feds.

I channel surfed over Aaron (Arrogant) Brown, CNN and thought I was going to punch the television screen. That putrid fool is a prick. He is so damn condescending sitting in his ivory tower looking down on the rest of us peons.

I bet he hasn't donated any of his money either to the victims of this disaster. It's almost as if he thinks he is too important to talk about these people. They aren't from his side of the tracks, you know.

...Maybe ted can donate his hairpiece to the survivors...they can burn it to keep warm.

That hair piece is actually a living alien organism from another galaxy that has symbiotically bonded to Ted's head and controls all his functions. To remove it would mean certain death to the host organism...not that there's anything wrong with that!

Well now I guess we can't blame the LA leadership, they were too busy trying to get themselves to safe harbor to worry about the citizens.

Kudos to the state senator Manrano(sp?) who is there personally on the ground bussing folks out. Rush must have made a few feel guilty. Talking about being able to bus folks to the polls but they couldn't get them to safety.

IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT!

No, no no. It's all Cheney's fault, cuz Bush only does exactly what Cheney tells him to do. And Cheney gets his marching orders from Halliburton. And Halliburton made this hurricane happen by, um ..... um ..... oh yeah, by the global warming that they instigated. So get it straight, please.

Where was Ted? Why didn't he don his cape and fly in and rescue them even if they didn't want rescuing. These Libs think the government is omnipotent and Bush is God! What is it with them!

Bush needs to run over to Pakistan or Afghanistan and get bin Laden, then he needs to hop over to Iraq and get Zawahiri and all his foreign cohorts, stop briefly over Iran and drop some super Moabs on their nukes, head on over to NK and do the same, toss the magic fairy dust of freedom over China and get back tomorrow morning and fix the Gulf coast. He needs to get the price of gas down, I don't know cuz I'm not him but I'm thinking turning water into oil and we've got plenty of that right now. Oh yeah and our supreme ruler could spend a few minutes at the borders to put up impermeable border fences.

My Goodness,

It's obvious, so obvious that the FEMA guy, and Koppel knows this, is doing the best he can. I can't believe whats happening to this country. On the other hand, why the hell are the people at the convention center not at the very least being dropped supplies? I don't understand why such a populous meeting point hasnt been helped out yet? Can anyone explain this? Or is it simply that the Louisiana State Government is horrifically and criminally inept? Hell, at this point there's no excuse for there not being a FEMA helicopter there at that point with supplies. I hope we learn from this. President Bush please be more outspoken and strong in the face of this terrible media!

The reason why the Dems and the media is blaming FEMA and President Bush is becuase they realize that the Dem city and state admins are so incompetent.

If everything was going well, the media and Dems would be praising the Mayor and Gov for the great job they were doing.

But instead they are diverting attention away from the idiot dems.

The nanny state/welfare mentality - it's always someone else's job. What part of MANDITORY EVACUATION do these fools in the media not get? The people on the coast were warned, told to leave, and chose to stick it out thereby endangered themselves and their families. That would be considered neglect when parents put their children in danger.

The Governor and Mayor's extreme ineptitude is what the bozos in the lame-steam media should be focused on. It was their job to prepare their constituents, NOT the federal government. There was ample time to prepare, and most responsible adults took to the road for safety. Yet all that was offered on the state level was another poor evacuation plan from the dimwit dimocrats. Either using "one way out" stuck in traffic or holing up in the dome, what choices!

Before the storm, they could have used all the school & city busses to evacuate those who couldn't make it on their own to higher ground further inland. But they chose weakness in the face of real danger instead.

After the storm, all resources were put at their disposal, yet they delayed making the request as well as delayed the delivery when aid arrived. Martial Law was declared and yet they still sat on thier hands allowing lawlessness to erupt. Neither can handle their jobs, yet refuse to step aside and allow someone else to handle it.

If President Bush hadn't announced the evacuation order, there would be more loss and suffering, mainly due to the clueless Democrats who failed to do anything - who, by the way, have been in charge of that state long before Bush ran for office.

When you have your hand extended, you shouldn't b!tch about getting aid when you were told to prepare for 3-5 days of food and water. When it comes to your family's safety, waiting on government to solve your problems is no better than waiting on a welfare check instead of getting off your arse and finding work.

But I guess wading around in sewage and griping about it is a much more pleasing alternative if you always pull the "D" lever when it's time to elect leadership. The failure of a democrat-led state is why the media is out in force trying to point fingers at Bush, when they all know the reality of the situation...their own failures cause many more to die than would have if they hadn't been slow to react.

The biggest favor Bush could do for those Dependants on the system is to cut them off, then they would think for themselves and not need the government to do anything for them. Seriously I would love to know how many of those that didn't leave are use to the government coddling them? I understand living paycheck to paycheck I did when I was younger, but let me tell you that if I told to leave the city nothing would have kept me there.

Remember....'publik skool' is what the DU-ers understand best. In time, you'll learn. Spelling is not their strong suit.

By the way, the last pic in your profile is from one of the many blind children's schools, right? They touch my heart. One pic I have searched for, but can never find, is the pic of the liberation of the children's prison in Baghdad when the Marines swept that area of the city clean on first assault.

I hope and pray you're right. I fear many of the opaque masses are so brainwashed, that they believe the fantastic lies and distortions as gospel.
