7:04 P.M. - WASHINGTON (AP) -- The military expects to put 30,000 National Guard troops on duty in the Gulf states as demands grow for more security and relief assistance, the commander in charge of military relief and rescue efforts said Thursday.
About 24,000 of those will be on the ground in Louisiana and Mississippi in the next three days, Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore said in a telephone interview with reporters at the Pentagon. He also ordered the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan from the Louisiana coast to waters off Biloxi, Miss., to assist with hurricane relief operations there.
The additional Guard units, plus active duty troops responding to the disaster, brings the total military complement to more than 40,000.
That wasn't a crack, it is a fact.
They are all over the news saying they have no water and are dehydrating.
It is just being reported that they have rain, so THERE is the water they needed.
Plain and simple.
Use tarps to gather it and bottle it...
No, not a crack, a smart and resourceful comment. That's exactly what they needed. Humans can survive for weeks w/o food, but only about 3 days w/o water. In those hot/humid conditions on a black rooftop with no shelter, perhaps less than 3 days. They needed rain. Hopefully a few less people will die if they collect some rainwater.
I'll go out on a limb and suggest the poster was saying "its raining, they have water" because rain water can be caught and people can drink it. Unlike what is currently floating around the city. That is, if they have anything to catch it in.
Water is the number one issue the people in the disaster areas are short of, and the rain is DRINKABLE water. This is a very big deal.
