28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

Can someone give me a link to a scanner feed? Anyone have one handy?
buh bye
There is a picture of that happening earlier in this thread. Post 120ish.
Yes.
The serious answer is that you're an utter knothead if you honestly believe the tripe you typed.
You need to read up on the protocols of emergency situations.
There'll be plenty of time for you to do so after the zot.

just keep trying to connect. I have to do it .Sometimes it takes a bunch of tries.
Fats Domino has been found!
I've been keeping up with threads and TV and today was the first I'd heard about the Convention Center.
When Mr. Robinson broke the color barrier, White America, could no longer ignore Black America. Jackie Robinson was on the front page of section most American men went to read after a long day at work, whether it was in the office, the factory or the farm. Those in positions of power were faced with the reality of discrimination.
Ensuing events, Rosa Parks, the Supreme Court's "Brown Decision", Alabama National Guard blocking a school entrance. Then the Civil Rights Acts and the voter registration drives in the south and Democrats attempts to crush it. That failure to stop desegregation caused the various civil rights organizations to become radicalized, preventing constructive dialog between the parties and creating a polarized environment for the next 30 years. The nursery for the American Left was built and the teat nurtured anti-American values.
Now we have Hurricane Katerine, a natural event, a national disaster. The American public watched as an American city was washed away, the disintegration of their society. The American media sanitized the event, refusing to show the bodies of the victims, refusing to show thugs preying upon the weak and the infirm.
It became apparent there is the choice between liberty and lawlessness. Those who treasure their freedom. Those who wish it to endure for their children and grandchildren must make it their calling, their vocation, to stand up for law, for civility. We must let out leaders know the behavior of thugs must not go unpunished. We must remove those leaders in title alone from their positions. People will not flourish under the hand of a weak ruler.
We must make our voices clear, our hands steady, are stance firm; we will not accept attacks upon our military, those who are serve in our stead to defend our liberty and protect the weakest among us.
Too late. The President "botched" nothing. People were told to get out last Friday & Saturday, many did not budge. The President issued a mandatory evacuation Sunday morning...again people did not move, nor did the governor or mayor offer means for the people to get out. It was Landrieu & the mayors call, not the President's...it's a state's right thing.
Give...

DONE!
Exactly! In my last post you'll notice that I admit to be computer challenged. Whenever I have to do something I ask my kids. If they're asleep, I'm sunk.
I have felt that way as well, but I am beginning to realize the scope of this disaster. There is just so much to do. You can only put so many choppers in the air at one time.

Don't know if this has been posted already, but here's a high resolution aerial photo of the city I found through National Review's The Corner. It looks like anything within 5 blocks of the River is dry. If that's the case, why aren't people walking from the Convention Center up to the Crescent City Connection and over to Algiers? The on-ramps look dry in this photo. Does anyone have any insight as to whether these ramps are now underwater?
"I heard the FEMA guy say that the people were literally coming out of the woodwork."
I was just thinking that it would probably be real easy to just show up at the astro dome and claim that you were From NO. Even people who are not involved in the hurricane. Not sure if anyone would want to do that or not, but They would probably be taken right in.
It will drop you out from time to time. you just have to click on the name over and over until it lets you back on.
I know, thanks just the same. It just flies faster when keep it short and sweet.
Oh well. I will swap and go to Firefox and use adblock.
Sigh...
