No, I have not. I have never been to England, but I know much about their history.

... the Quarter is more than dangerous right now and I defy any of us to go there for long and not have PTS.
I was at the French Quarter Marriott a few years ago for a convention, and Halloween came upon us....THAT scenario still gives me nightmarish flashbacks. I thought I knew "kinky" before, but learned better.
Seriously - lots of Nawlins has been honky-tonk and 'sin city' for years, but it was a geographically beautiful place and just oozed history and lore....this past several days breaks my heart.
That city was one of the few I've been to that allowed you to literally smell and taste it's uniqueness, and it's sad to see it all obliterated.

It's about time, isn't it.
I know the problems aren't as vast, but compare the level of competence being displayed in Mississippi and Alabama with what's going on in Louisiana.

... the hotel privately rented 10 buses to evacuate a bunch of tourists in the hotels in the Quarter. they were commandeered and sent to the superdome ... I read that the buses were commandeered by FEMA authorities. I assume that would be due to an obligation to follow orders to manage the evacuation.

Saw the following quote on NBC News. Please tell me the only thing standing in the way of people escaping from the convention center is NOT permission from the mayor to cross the f-ing bridge!!! This simply just cannot be the case! Someone also please tell me why the H the thugs don't want people to leave! In hopes of defusing the unrest at the convention center, Mayor Ray Nagin gave the refugees permission to march across a bridge to the citys unflooded west bank for whatever relief they could find. But the bedlam at the convention center appeared to make leaving difficult.

Driving the population to hysteria is NOT helpful. It drives up gas prices for one.
To: Lizarde
There is no relationship between what is going on in NO city and the price of oil.
The storm certainly affected operations in greater NO and in the gulf but that is completely separate from what is happening in the city.
To: bwteim
None taken.
I take it many haven't read The Stand.
One of the few books King wrote that I got all the way through.

Metmom, This question has never been asked in the history of FR. In fact, this is one of the slower threads this week. Each of us are keeping up. Where have you been?

Another time my friend, we have used up enough of the thread on it. MY apologies for taking the thread off topic.

Not sure what there may be to gain by crossing the Mississippi. The people there probably figure it can't be better enough to make it worth the walk. They are basically waiting to get bused out, but so far no buses have stopped there.
