The moment looting started, the Governette (no insult intended to women in general, intending to designate her as a lightweight) should have declared a State of Insurrection - it's not a mark of shame, just a statement of fact. At that point, the looters would have been crushed by the elements of the 82nd Airborne and 2nd Marine Division that are *ON THE GROUND NOW* and that would have been the end of it.
Since she still hasn't done that, they can only use National Guard units for patrols and such. The regular military and reserve is restricted to humanitarian and rescue operations only. They can shoot back, but only in self-defense and only in more extreme cases. The only other way they can get involved (other than if dumbsh** gets off her liberal butt and makes the declaration) is if Congress passes an act authorizing it. That would, naturally, take weeks.
lol!
Yes, welcome to FR! Don't worry. After a while you'll be able to tell all you need to know about fellow Freepers by the adjectives they use.
If you see the word "patriot", "bushbot" or "invasion", you're dealing with a paleo.
If you see the words "unnappeasable" or a lot of talk about Bush's poll numbers, you've probably got a neo, or a moderate.
If someone say's "pass that over" in the middle of a discussion on tax policy, you've got a Libertaian.
We're really one big, happy disfunctional family.
There was a picture on this thread last night. I thought the very same thing.
Let me venture a guess?
Brown was actually on the ground shortly after Katrina left. He went to BR to liaise with the governor's office and was in some of her first pressers.
He's shown her up as an incompetent, so she's been keeping him away from the podium. From what I understand, he's a pretty good administrator.
Freepers are frustrated at how bad things are. Most Freepers would have been out helping others, organizing things in shelters, volunteering with evacuations and at hospitals.
Yeah, and when quakes hit, we don't get a warning. We've been thinking about that this past week. It's been a while since I prepared an earthquake preparedness kit, and I think I need to build up a new one. The problem I have is having extra medication on hand. They won't give you a month's supply to hold back for emergencies. Or will they? I've never had to rely on prescription meds before, and my bf takes several.
For the most part, people up here are laid back, good churchgoing folks. Of course we do have that small segment of the population that will cause trouble, in the event of a catastrophic quake.
I stand corrected.
In case you didn't remember, it took 4 hours to get across New Orleans the day before the storm hit. Not out of the danger area, just out of the city.
Probably a couple of things happened.
A lot of the drivers were probably heading out of town.
They didn't think the city would flood
They also didn't think to or chose not to load them full of evacuees and drive out of town, or didn't want to add to the traffic load.
People didn't think it was really going to hit until it was really upon them. Too late to do some of these things.
Governette didn't sign the order authorizing the use of all school buses in the state to evac people until YESTERDAY.
McClellan fails in so many aspects it's pathetic. He should have been eased out years ago. This is nothing personal about Scott.....just business. He may be a super guy otherwise.
Paging Ari......

So you love Lifetime TV too, huh? ;-)
LOL, UGH! I've never even stopped on that channel, nor on Oxygen, which I heard is similiar. And I don't do soap operas, ever..

BTW - you are not a NOOB. You're a newbie.
Welcome to Free Republic.
Hundred dollar donation to Salvation Army says you're wrong. We on?
2. Within the next week the MSM will take and tout a poll, trumped up as it may be, showing Bush's numbers lower than ever
The MSM, CBS, has a poll out today showing only 12% disapproving of the way Bush is handling the disater.
3. The LA state and local officials will recieve virtually no blame from the MSM, but there will be a massive voter retaliation in 2006.
Here, you are right. Blanco is a goner and Nagin won't have a city to be Mayor of.
4. Bush's visit today will seem successful to those on the ground, the MSM will look for and find, footage of a victim complaining about the president. This footage will be shown more than footage of the president himself for the next few days.
Bushs visit will be successful period. He is at his best on the gournd with boots on and talking to the common folk among us.
5. Within 2 months a Dimocrat with alot of clout will begin impeachment hearings.
Democrats are in the minority, they don't "begin impeachement hearings", they don't begin any hearings. Thats what happens when you're in the minority.
6. Bush will be fighting for his political survival for the next year, but the Republicans will pick up seats in 2006.
Bush will come out of this fine. Big losers politically will be MSM, Governor Blanco and Louisiana LEO's.
7. Bush's numbers will rise about two months before Nov 2006 on the basis of a largely recovered economy, a good deal of progress in rebuilding NO, and an increasingly robust economy
Bush's numbers will always be the same. A slim majority amongst voters, the only poll that counts. The country remains divided.
ARI!!!
crime is a problem, obviously gangland is that but the city is small enough to were it permeates almost everwhere in jackson and ridgeland.
The largest mall in jackson, metrocenter, finally closed due to being located in a very bad area, with kidnappings in the parking lot, etc. It is the second mall in jackson to close due to its location having gone to pot (jackson mall closed roughly 15 years ago for similar reasons though the violence level wasn't as bad then, i THINK)....
