28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

Tropical Storm 12
There is no home to go back to!!!!!!!!!
In those high temps, too. A perfect place to breed all kinds of lovely things. One report said they hope people had current tetanus vaccinations.
What are you talking about?????? It is a fact.
Heard a guy from a help line state, "this elderly women called and said she went out on the porch with her little dog and he jumped into the water and got eaten by an alligator." That was on Fox News Radio.
Me too.
LOL! Absolutely. I changed the channel because I didn't want to deal with Greta, I thought she was bad. I've never watch Scarborough. Look what I got instead. Is there anyone who is watchable any longer? Unbelievable, ridiculous comments from Scarborough.
I'm finding some of the best coverage of all on the Weather Channel - no hype, just facts.
The cable station coverage is embarrassing with each clown trying to up each other and get an award for their coverage.
"The cable station coverage is embarrassing with each clown trying to up each other and get an award for their coverage."
Just saw FOX promo'ing "GERALDO LIVE FROM THE SCENE!"
We're saved now.. /sarc
He was particularly bad. The coverage was just off:
-you had the media focused on the caterogy of the storm, when the big question was would the levee hold;
-you had them declaring everything wonderful too early;
-now they are focusing on the chaos and their political agenda; instead of delivering vital information.
They are just doing a terrible job.
I am sorry I assumed in the post that most people would come back. I originally wrote in the post, pre-edited, that "even after folks return to their home, if still standing." I took the last words out because I did not wish to discourage anyone with a glib comment. I probably should have been more honest about the situation. To be sure many homes are not habitable and never will be. The devastation south of New Orleans is horrible. In coastal St. Bernard's Parish 40,000 homes were completely under water. Five people who stayed at the top of a local hotel saw nothing but water and a few rooftop peaks all around for miles. It took a miraculous effort to get them out to safety. That area is probably never going to come back to life anytime soon. The coastal area south of NO has been eroding for years, not helped by the levees protecting NO from the sea and the mighty Mississippi River. The levees and canals in NO and upriver are preventing the normal flow of silt and sand to form in the delta area and thus the erosion continues unabated.
Prayers up for everyone in Katrina's path.
Leave me alone and go take some asprin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greta did a pretty good job at the Astrodome..No shots being fired yet..and none heard at the Superdome..Convention Center probable rape going on..no help.(armed man holding woman at gunpoint..
Big trucks arriving with water I 10 area probably..
CNN(live)Police in French Qurter area holed up with families and some residents, snipers on the roof..Thugs have been shooting and police firing back..

I woke up turned on Fox this morning and Watched Shep Smith showing an elderly man's dead man's body on the road. That poor man, God Rest his Soul, becomes a part of Shep Smith's show. They all reminded me why I do not watch the MSM any longer.
I'm listening to Rush Limbaugh rebroadcast and feel better with these stories being put into perspective. Thanks for listening to my rant. ;)
FOX is reporting big flashes of light coming from superdome..
Watching Fox..
Explosions at or near Superdome...
