Considering the cesspool of corruption that Memphis has become in the last fifty years or so, maybe Mr. Ford should just STFU and mind his own business. From what I've heard his family business is taking bribes and kickbacks.

If a huge natural disaster ever hit Memphis, it wouldn't take long for it to look like New Orleans does now.

My question would be this: When were they supposed to bring in the food, troops, etc...before the storm? If so, all would have been swept away.
Airplanes and trucks with supplies need a place to land and drive. FEMA had pre-positioned a LOT of supplies, but naturally it could not be in NO or it would have been lost.
I heard a general saying that airports, landing strips, etc had to be cleared before rescuers could go in. That certain conditions had to be met before the rescuers could go in or THEY would be in terrible danger. Remember the command post at the WTC? By being too close to the towers, the rescuers were killed with many of hte victims.
These people like Ford who stand on the sidelines take political swipes at the people who are DOING THE JOB! And though I sympathize with the people down there, IF THEY HAD GOTTEN OUT WHEN TOLD TO DO SO, they would not now be waiting. I know that MANY could not get out, but why didn't the Mayor help the poor leave the city by sending buses and other transportation for them?

So the Democrats decide to use Ford as the person who will point their finger at the President. The Dems are spineless and gutless. Sickening.

The blame game can go around after the rescue mission not while it is going on.

This is going to get ugly for President Bush. It will be interesting to see if the rest of the country believes this.

Your can ALWAYS count on Ford to say the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Ford had to go all the way up the chain of command, to the President -- to get to the first REPUBLICAN with any responsiblity for what happened/didn't happen in New Orleans..

New Orleans was DEMOCRAT run, and a majority BLACK city.
Mayor, Governor, Police Chief, etc, etc, etc,......all Democrats and mostly black.

If I said what I think about the arrogant bastard -- I'd get banned for life...

Typical of Democrats, Ford has NO SOLUTIONS, only bitching about the situation that he and his fellow leftist Democrats create through their socialist politics.

Semper Fi

Oh pul-leeeeeeze!

If Gov Perry can be prepared to house 25,000 people (simply with good planning), then certainly the democrats who lead LA can do the same .. right ..??

Hmmmm?? Here we have republican Gov Perry who is prepared, and then we have democrat Gov ? who is not prepared, and her party is blaming Bush - instead of her lack of preparation.

You have to see that the kid that has reaped the benefits of a corrupt family state political machine (recently arrested again) is now expecting the Feds to do what the State is charged with doing.

I think Rep. Ford needs to send some buses down there from Tennessee. Then, he can haul the survivors back up there and give them some of that Socialized Medicine that's bankrupted his state!

What a marooooon! Find the log in your own eye first, Buddy!

Well well, Cindy, Governor BlankO, and Mayor Nagin are giving the country a vision of what it would be like if the demos ran the country. It's very blatant and the demos are realizing it. Expect more of this bashing. Lots more.
Knowing this, I am doing an ice-hot burn anyway.

Dear Mr. Ford,

Thank you for helping me show my children an example of leadership and commitment.

Your comments concerning Mr. Bush's lack of response and "weak and uncertain" behavior were a great way for me to illustrate the fact that in a time of crisis, some men "do the job" and others sit back and talk a lot.

You are a credit to your constiuents and the district you represent. Thank you for your aid in educating my children. By your example I hope they will try to emulate President Bush and avoid your pathetic behavior.

Please give the world an example of your great "leadership" in this great tragedy other than to spew party propaganda.

I have a suggestion for your chief of staff......see if maybe you can head up a "conference" committee to asign blame for this hurricane on the Bush administration. That would be VERY constructive and allow tons of free network television time.

May I be so bold as to suggest some of the next issues to address...

1) Failure to sign Kyoto aggreement cause the Earth to get hot and caused Katrina.
2) Bush's lying about the "weapons of mass destruction" took valuable National Guardsmen away from Louisiana where they could have stopped the looting.
3) Diversion of funds away from the levy upgrades would have prevented ALL THE FLOODING. Instead we're wasting money in Iraq.
4) Haliburton is going to make money in the reconstruction of New Orleans and everybody in the Bush administration is going to get rich on the backs of minority population of New Orleans....... again.
5) This entire situation was planned in order to facilitate the construction of additional refinery and pipeline capacity ...... to make money for the "oil industry".....and Haliburton.
6) The Bush administration did this to get rid of a Democrat voting block in Louisiana by sending the populace to the 4 corners of the United States. Where Haliburton will feed and shelter the refugees.... at a profit.
7) Bush's media allies only show looting in New Orleans... when everybody knows that "everyone does it".
8) "Everybody" knows that it only takes 12-18 hours to get an amphibious tracked vehicle into a disaster.... The evil Bush administration kept them in these things called, "depots". Same with the helicopters.

Finally we know that its not the city government or even the state's responsibility...or even congress' responsibility to plan for this event. It was all Bush's fault for mountain biking, jogging and lifting weights while New Orleans and it's minority population sunk to the bottom of the Mississippi...

sincerely,

"But Ford said the response, which left tens of thousands stranded without food and water for days on rooftops, in abandoned areas and inside the Louisiana Superdome — some dying before help could arrive — was too slow."

I'm sorry if I appear to be soooooo....INSENSITIVE!: But, wasn't the people in the Gulf area told by the national, state and local weather service,( not to mention their Mayor and the Governor) to get the heck out of DODGE?

Well I'm sorry, but I don't even for a minute, buy into the notion that they didn't have the ability to leave, and especially when they could always get anywhere else whenever they want to go badly enough.

I live in Tennessee, and I heard the weather service warning at least 14 hours before the storm hit the coast, so don't try and tell me that there wasn't ample warning.

I 'll go even further and bet that many of these people who are stuck on the roofs of their homes and apartments, where in fact waiting for some government entity(State or Federal)to haul them out before the storm hit! Hence the delima and helplessness of the dependency minded that we now witness; and Thanks are due entirely to the poverty pimping liberals in whom they have put their trust, and in essences their very lives.

I suppose it only goes to prove that the nanny state will always be held responsible for the wellbeing of all terminally stupid among us, and that there will alway be politically opportunistic Liberals around, to announce that it is always someone Else's fault, when it is their very ideas and policies that have placed these poor folks in the position they now find themselves.

That said; My heart goes out to those who are stranded, homeless, and in dire need. We as a nation, are, will, and continue to sincerely help our own to get on their feet again. But to place blame and start whining that help is not coming fast enough, is only to discourage the efforts of those who are actually doing something.

Instead of standing back and pontificating before a camera,(in a very nice and dry government building), spouting off venomous rantings at the administration, (in an effort to further ones personal ambitions), why doesn't these nanny state promoters actually go to NO and physical help rescue some of those folks he claims to care so much about? I personally think he needs to go and stay instill the job is done! If he is too busy, then he need to shut the heck up, and let the earnest efforts of others helping be recognized for the sacrifice that it is.

Thanks to all our cheap shot phony baloney, poverty pimping, crooked minded Democrat politicians,(Like the Ford Family of Memphis)seeking their own personal ambitions at the cost of the American people, the average citizen in this country has absolutely no concept of personal responsibility, nor do they display any recognizable virtue to indicate the least bit of common sense. The sheer magnitude of what has happened in NO and MS has just horribly proved my point!

This idiot was an embarrasment as a President, helped usher Jimmy Carter into Office and contines to be an embarrassment.

This is not a case of senility. Its a pattern of congenital stupidity.

Gerald Ford ranks right up there with Clinton, Carter, Johnson, FDR, Harding, Bush I and a few others as among the worst Presidents in History.
