Shep showed a dead body along the freeway. How low can you go to grandstand? Things are bad in N.O., but he didn't have to show it.

It sure seems like he fills the bill when it comes to describing the Southern Peacock.

Did you hear that Congress is cutting their vacation short too and returning to 'emergency session' tomorrow? They did it for Terri Schiavo; they can do it for NO, Miss, Alabama and Georgia too.

David Brooks' column today gives some interesting historical perspective on America's great floods --

Disagree completely. He's frustrated by the response of the authorities in charge. He's using the only tool he's got.

He's been on the verge of tears a couple of times.

He's been caught up in this too. It's not like he's reporting, and then heading to the Hyatt when its all done. He's pretty much stuck like everyone else.

I have three kids, and I can't IMAGINE trying to keep three kids up and having to wait FOUR DAYS for someone to finally find their ass with both hands and exert some leadership.

I think he's shown amazing restraint, because I'd be SCREAMING at people if I were in his shoes.

The reason why he showed the body is because the person waited on the overpass for someone to help them and they died waiting.

The response to this disaster has been PATHETIC. There is no other way to say it. Blanco and Nagin have been quivering masses of ineptitude from the beginning.

Thanks for the welcome. Perhaps today was not the best day to post for the first time. We are so shaken here on the gulf and when you see posts by people that are offended by Shep showing dead bodies it angers you. I will come back another day. Goodbye.

I guess you're right. There must be some sort of conspiracy. There's someone big who just wants those people to die! /sarc.

It is 3 days counting and no supplies yet at the Convention center.

A woman and her child wait with hundreds of other flood survivors at the Convention Ccenter in New Orleans, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005. Thousands of storm refugees had been assembling outside for days, waiting for help to come.

LOL! Now I'm sniping and blaming Bush for bad weather; I've done neither, before you had a ready excuse for the officer ignoring Shep because "maybe he had a mission."

Sorry, their first mission is to "serve and protect." A simple answer to Shep would have been sufficient.

Too bad that you think that's "conjecturing" "sniping" or "blaming Bush for the weather."

EXCUSE ME!

"i" before "e" except after "c"

How uncouth of me.

Get a life or go teach spelling, in the mid-east.

I saw the same thing....
Heck, I've seen the same thing in people pushed beyond desperation.

That is where Shep appears to be right now. If ya ain't been there, you don't know what it looks like. But its the soul black hopelessness when you really believe that hell has happened on earth and no one gives a damn.

I don't have a problem with Shep. He tries to be a little too cool sometimes but that is all. When I saw him yesterday he looked like he was about to cry.

They are sitting back and letting people die. This is exactly what they are doing.

Amazing.

>Well, reporting from an overpass w/hundreds of stranded, and some now dying! refugees, w/officials within eyeshot, but inexplicably ignoring them, just may do that to a person, IMO.

It’s weird!
The whole thing is very strange.

The Salvation Army is saying they went as far as they would let them go with the food?

You don’t see the all-out effort to help that you would expect.

I know there is shooting now, but there wasn’t an all-out effort before that started.

It took days to get food and water to people standing on the overpass a short distance from the Dome.

What is all the fuss about showing a single dead body on TV for a few secs? It is just a little piece of REALITY of thousands dead, rotting, decomposing human bodies that survivors have no choice but to face. The rest of America should have a little fortitude.

Something to ponder/consider... what if it's your brother, sister, aunt, uncle, child, mom, dad or wife that's the "dead, rotting, decomposing human body" being splashed across the TV screen worldwide for mankind to gawk and stare at? Much like most do when rubber-necking at a trainwreck or vehicle head-on collision. The only need to see it is to satisfy one's personal need to view the macabre and grisly. Reporting that there are dead bodies laying around and floating in New Orleans should be sufficient news to give people the facts of reality. Showing pictures of it is just to add shock value for ratings. I'm not trying to stir the pot here, just offering another perspective from someone who's experienced it, and as one praying not to see one of my friend's faces on TV.
