Former Presidents Bush, Clinton asked to raise cash for hurricane victims

WASHINGTON President Bush is asking his father and former President Bill Clinton to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The two have been raising money for victims of the tsunami that hit Asia in December. The former presidents plan to meet at the White House today with the current chief executive.

A White House spokesman also says President Bush will tour the damage zone tomorrow by helicopter and then will see some spots on the ground. The spokesman says Bush wanted to visit the area earlier but "didn't want to be disruptive of efforts on the ground."

I didn't lie. You said don't 'throw money' at this problem until the violence is stopped.

Your own words betray your the lie you posted in message # 71.

I'm off this thread...

Good
bye.

Why does Bush have to ask Clinton, of all people, for help?

clintoon has been unofficially adopted by George & Barbara.

Barbara calls clintoon, "Son."

I'm sorry as well.

Please accept my apologies. I think we're both raw over this whole thing (and, for my own part, a lot of other stuff).

Accepted..........thank you.

Let's leave the ugliness for the others, OK?

There seems to be plenty on this thread to go around.

Accepted..........thank you.

Thank you for your forgiveness. I am at your service.

Let's leave the ugliness for the others, OK?

It's a deal. *shaking hands*

Well, to the matter at hand. We can certainly agree that the survivors need as much help as possible, and I know every soul here will do what they can to pitch in. Luck knows no justice, and tragedy knows no politics.

In my opinion, the American people are quite capable of raising funds through the Red Cross, Salvation Army and other charities - without the assistance of former Presidents.

Amen, friend.

This insults me.

Amen! We need to dig deep for this one.

The tragedy is hard to get your mind around. So much loss...........

My prayers are unceasing for the victims of this disaster, and for the safety and protection of all those first responders who are literally putting their lives on the line to help total strangers, and for the quick apprehension (or death) of these monstrous terrorists doing violence to their neighbors and rescuers.

No reason to feel insulted.

What you're forgetting is that they will go to large corporations where average citizens cannot go, and will raise millions more dollars than will be raised by charities on their own.

They will also keep fundraising after the emotions have abated, and people start to forget what happened, but money is still needed.

There is no insult in this. There is a great need for great sums of money, and the broader the base of support, the better.

This is a GOOD thing for the stricken Gulf Coast, no matter what you think of Bill Clinton. Anyone who really cares about the needs of these hundreds of thousands of people will not be upset about this fundraising effort.

Your predictions are already true. Clinton took up for W against Julianne Malveaux on CNN last nite.

A shrewd political move.

What am I doing about it?

I write my Congressman and Senators from time to time. I also pay my taxes. Not just sales taxes either. I'm married with no kids and own most of my house so I pay income taxes so irresponsible people can lead irresponsible lives. I believe the LBJ Great Society was a mistake. I want to keep the money I have earned and I'm not going to apologize for that.

I actually spend about fifty hours a week on campus. While I never pull an internet reveal on exactly where, it's one of the big universities in the Triangle, within thirty minutes' driving time from Holly Springs, where I live.

I'm a minor nobody in a very large history department.

I've never blamed W for the disaster; that would be ridiculous. However, may I remind all not to make fun of Mother Nature. That can be very bad.

I've given cash, and a generator. Unfortunately, the guy taking my generator down to Mississippi was turned away by the Highway Patrol, and is sitting down there now waiting to get through the lines to some friends with the goodies.
