Some freepers defended the looting, saying "you don't know what you would do in the same situation!"

This kind of comments makes me furious. When Hugo left his mark on SC I was living practically in the woods, with a 3 week old baby. I remember ripping off sheets, pillowcases, towels... anything that could be used as a diaper! Meanwhile, my hubbie was out with a chainsaw, trying to cut a path in the road. When we finally made it to town, just to find out that everything was boarded up or torn, no power, no water, it did not cross our minds to break into the local WalMart or grocery store and help ourselves to the things we needed so badly. Civilized people don't do that, regardless of the situation. What we are seeing in NO is people born and bred in the welfare system. They have never worked for, or paid for, anything in their lives so how can we expect them to begin now?

I did but I have come back to my senses now. I do think taking the food would be ok considering the situation. I guess I was having a liberal moment since I am surrounded by them here at work...............

"You don't know what you would do in the same situation."

This is similar to the "Everybody does it!" defense used by Dumbocrats back in `98-`99 when Slick William was caught with his pants down. Again.

Nope, sorry. Not everyone is a looter or serial adulterer. (The Dums don't give their fellow Americans much credit . . .)

I remember one clip where a very large black woman was outraged that FEMA hadn't given her a trailer yet. She felt she was entitled to a comfortable place to live immediately.

If FEMA does provide trailers for these people, the trailers will probably be much nicer that where they were living before and it will be almost impossible to get them to leave when the time comes. We will likely wind up with FEMA trailer cities where no one has a job and they all live off the public dole. This could wind up lasting for years.
