fb,
My wife used to make fun of me because I would store water.

I explained to her that we have plenty of canned or preserved foods, prolly for 2 weeks, just sitting around anyway. But if there's no water in a crisis, there's no water and none coming. So I store some.

She hasn't brought it up lately.

Few people think of this, but just about everybody has an emergency supply of water already in place. Usually there is 30 gallons or so in the water heater, which can be easily accessed through its drain valve.

Funny you should bring up storing water etc. My husband has always made fun of me hoarding things for a rainy day. We live in a very rural mountainous area and should we have a major storm or flood, there wouldn't be help for days or even weeks. How do I know this? Well, we went through a flood in 1972 caused by Hurricane Agnes. Luckily my parents always had a lot of food so not only were they prepared but they also helped the neighbors.
I hope every freeper will donate to the Red Cross or another charity that they trust because you NEVER know when you might be the one that needs help!!

Understood. My family teases me about having stored water also. Maybe they'll start storing their own now.

But if your house is under water so are your emergency supplies. I'm certain that some of these folks did believe that they were prepared. Note I said 'some'.

"My wife used to make fun of me because I would store water."

Many people who live in rural areas store water, because when the power goes out, so does the water pump, which leaves exactly ONE flush remaining in the toilet. Another thing people tend to forget, is that their sump pump needs to have power, So a generator for houses with sump pumps and pump out septic systems is a MUST, otherwize your basement will quickly fill up with sewage and ground water. For most people in rural areas, a good back up generator is the single most important thing, along with plenty of fuel to keep it running. It keeps your toilet flushing, water flowing, freezer cold. All you have to do is keep the fire going and your eyes open for looters.

Do you think your stored water and canned and preserved foods would be much help to you if you house no longer existed?
