My prediction is that Jesse Jackson declares himself pastor of the Astrodome. Recognizing the hardship of his flock, he will only require tithing of 5% of their FEMA stipend.

According to the article, they will be taken to museums and amusement parks.

Where do you live? We can send them to you, right? You could just line them up and shoot them I guess.
They have no human value apparently, and after three whole days, no one has any compassion left for them? Is that not what I'm hearing on this thread?

Most of the people posting on Free Republic right now have lost their homes I did, I lost my home in 1996 to a fire. So I know what it is like. Don't be so damned quick to mount that high horse.

I realize it's a big problem. However; this will not end well for anyone It didn't start out as somebody's great idea.... it's a disaster.

Yes, taken to museums & amusement parks. And treated to decent food at the area restaurants already putting up signs to feed them for free. Like I said before, maybe they'll stay a while & add to the local color here.
Maybe they'll displace the illegals.

Really? You can back that up? Most of the people posting on Free Republic right now have lost their homes and the city they lived in to some kind of disaster? Wow. I had no idea how lucky I was to live up here with just our measely volcano and a bunch of liberals. How many times has your house been flooded by the numerous hurricanes that come into the Gulf of Mexico?
I've waded in chest-deep water helping remove furniture from houses in major floods caused by hurricanes. I've seen people's house destroyed more than once.
So, please, spare us your once in a lifetime volcanic eruptions experiences and try to understand that most of the people who live on the Gulf Coast KNOW exactly what's it's like.

I was watching a bit of news earlier this evening. Until this morning, I had no idea of the true devastation of Katrina. I heard yesterday that the Super Dome was leaking and there were some problems. I had no idea the true extent of this disaster.
I was thinking of posting a vanity concerning this ridiculous action by a Federal Agency. I was astonished to hear that domed stadiums are now to be considered havens in this way.
This is unbelievable that FEMA has this for a solution. What would they come up with if we get nuked? What a waste.

Not to belittle the tragedy; but these folks had four days warning, and took no evasive action. BTW, based upon the visual news coverage, has anyone noticed the demographics of the "refugees?"
Yeah, based on the visual news coverage, the demographics of the refugees is that they are poor as hell. So how were these people who have no cars supposed to take "evasive action"? Did you know that the bus station in NO shut down on Saturday, many hours before the hurricane hit? I don't even know how you were able to see the news coverage with that pointy hood over your head.

If the National Guard is there to treat these folks like it was Gitmo, it might not be that big a problem. These people aren't terrorists.
Good grief, and good night.

Knowing that the people would arrive tired, frustrated and disheartened, shelter organizers began planning activities that might help take the evacuees' minds off their troubles, such as free trips to museums and amusement parks. They can bring Cindy Sheehan in to cheer them all up!

Meanwhile, we need the zeroist of zero tolerance when it comes to behavior in these refugee camps. This is the first time I saw the word being used: refugee camps

Well, apparently your "compassion" hasn't moved your state to offer that they live there for a few months.
Your state's silence is deafening.

This should have been the destination BEFORE the hurricane.
