"...Having lived in Spain and married a French woman, I must say that I have become so sick of that particularly smug superiority on the part of many German, Belgian, and French people. I am so tired of the conversation in which my European "friends" take the opportunity to lecture me about my own country. Columns like this are just more of the same.

The global warming crowd says it's Bush's fault.
The Zionist Christians say it's Bush's fault.
The Islamist Jihadists say it's Bush's fault.
The Democrats say it's Bush's fault.
Millions of idiots can't be wrong.

At least one socialist bastard offered a token bit of aid along with his mockery. These guys don't even bother with that much. Give me an enemy like Venezuela instead of a friend like Germany any day of the week.

As a first generation American with German and Dutch blood flowing in my veins, you cannot honestly refute my assertion that there is a German tendency to didacticism. Thank you, mein damen und herren, for your moral instruction in an hour of tragic human suffering in one of the poorer quarters of the U.S. Would that the typical American resorted to such elitism 50 years ago in Deutschland's hour of need. How long would Berlin have sustained itself on self-righteousness had America loaded its C47's with similar platitudes, back in 1948? If you have nothing more to add in this hour of human suffering; I ask you, most respectfully, to please shut up. Thank you. - Peter E. Dykhuis Alexandria, Virginia Who would have thought that so much sensibility could be found in Alexandria.

Those were the "more polite" comments. I can imagine what the rest read like.
Trittin is a self-righteous, sanctimonious, ignorant boor. Those are the nicest things I can say about him.

Maybe the world wouldn't be so warm if we hadn't had to devote billions of gallons of gasoline and diesel oil to blasting the Third Reich to ashes and then keeping the Soviets at bay for nearly half a century.

"The Zionist Christians say it's Bush's fault."
Speaking as a "Zionist Christian" (if that means a Christian who supports Israel then the shoe fits) ... I blame Katrina on Clarence Darrow (now, where is that wink.gif?) ... not for that evolution thing but for arguing non-culpability on account of insanity.
Darrow hasn't been blamed for ANYTHING lately and I bet he's feeling forgotten. (has ANYONE seen the wink.gif?)

Ohhh, I can just imagine the furious fingers typing away. Typical German smug elitist crapola that Germans accept as wise and good leadership. We can only hope that things will change in a few weeks.

I should have clarified. There are some Christian Zionists that claim a link between the destruction of the Jewish community of Gaza and the destruction of New Orleans. While I must admit it would give some perverse satisfaction to blame someone else for the destruction of the Jewish community in Gaza, I did not mean to impune all Christian Zionists.
Oh, and if we are blaming Clarence Darrow, we might as well blame the activities on Bourban Street during Mardi Gras too...

Yea, but it's loonier to blame Darrow. On the same plane with saying that global warming is being caused by SUVs.
Make no mistake, the Earth has gotten warmer since they started keeping records in northern Europe and America in the 18th century.
Of course we were still in the grips of a 500 year old ice age at the time ... but that's besides the point. An ice age ends in the 18th/19th centuries and a 21st century SUV is to blame ... rational science. Pure and simpleminded.

This article displays the sort of compassion that I would expect from a country that's started 2 world wars, sold weapons to iraq for oil, side-stepping UN sanctions, then has the gall to take a self-exalted moral high ground. Germany is my heritage, of this I am not proud. Started two world wars...
Sold weapons to Iraq for oil...
Claims the moral high ground.
Yep, that about sums it up.

Aside from your main point which is well taken, the reality of the phrase "the destruction of New Orleans" is just now beginning to sink in for me. The loss of much of the Gulf Coast is a staggering catastrophe, and despite all the brave words we hear about rebuilding, this will affect us all in ways we don't yet fathom.
To: Chgogal
Unfortunately your spot on. I live in Germany and believe me...the reason they rejected Schroeder (in Rhineland-Pfalz) had nothing to do with his "capitulation" to Bush and everything to do with him just mentioning they may have to increase the work week and cut pensioner benefits because they cannot sustain them. The Germans will go down with the ship for anything that jackasses like Tritten (and Schnickelgruber) tell them if it bolsters their Socialist (read: stupid) ideas.

Well, as a somewhat conservative being (which might still be far to the left of the conservatism of the Republicans for instance), it's increasingly becoming difficult to live in Germany and not become totally frustrated by the antiamericanism voiced by members of the Bundestag.
The election on the 18th just HAS to be won by the CDU, otherwise I cannot imagine to continue to live in this country anymore, with IDIOTS like Trittin being our "leaders" (the word is so laughable for this half-witted, dogmatic grandpa).
As there was a point in having Kohl go away in 1998 by electing Schroeder, after 7 years you could sum it up as a total desaster. The left and especially the green party are just not capable of running a country. That was a lesson learned a hard way for the germans, and it definitely has to stop this month, if just to save the tiny bit reputation of Germany being a freedom-loving country.
If you are German and not anti-american, or even just a little pro the Iraq war (because it's always a good thing to rid a country of a dictator, regardless of WMDs), you cannot safely voice this opinion in Germany anymore, because the chance that some leftist bully-type stepping up to you and giving you physical harm is too high. Yep, it's that bad.
Why doesn't the US allow people from Germany to move there, if they share so many more of those values than their own country's ? You really have to get rid of that green card bs...

Being the charming, easy-going lefty that he is, he probably reads all the mail himself..LOL
