There may be gouging going on, it's up to the individual state's AG offices.

Rationing is not the answer and neither is price controls. As a conservative individual, I'll take it upon myself to watch my usage. I'll definately cut back on my own driving and unnecessary trips.

While I did not like his take on price caps, I did agree with his statement that the pursuit of alternative energy was a good idea. He talked about wind mills. While I have not studied the costs/benefits of wind mills in detail, I do want more R&D money spent on alternative energy. Savage seemed to think that alternative energy only embraced by the left which is total BS.

Actually today speech was about how to help the victims of the hurricane, recovery, saving lives, bring the Gulf cost back to normal as soon as possible. Moreover today President Bush ordered the release of oil from the Strategic Oil Reserves to fill the shortage from oil production interruption in the Gulf cost caused by the hurricane. Also President Bush ordered the "waiving" of the special gasoline refining requirement for some period of time so more gasoline will be available in the market. More to come on the Gasoline issue.

"Mike's off his meds again."

I think you are spot on.

Last week I heard him do a great show, he passed on criticizing other talk show host, replied "doing well" when a caller asked him, "how are you?" (instead of exploding head routine) provided decent political thought and was polite.

Then this crap.

It is not gouging because the gas station has to pay for the fuel delivery COD at spot prices. They raise the price to cover the increase they just paid.

$3.50 per gallon will go further towards building new refineries than will $2.50. Price controls do not work - never did, never will.

A better course would be to conquer Venezuela and Mexico.

I will at least entertain it.

Before you entertain gas price controls too much, research what rent control did for the supply of housing in NYC.

Yes I understand. Freeper myopia is at work in full force today.

Is it possible that intel chatter suggests that the bad guys are planning something? The USA is almost on one knee now (though reports of being KOed are way way overstated). We are about two weeks from the 4th anniversary of the 9-11 attack, and in the days after the Lonon attacks, word was that they would try something in the time between then and September.

Actually if the bad guys could hit us now, they would be crazy not to. Maybe this is what is weighin on his mind. Clearly, he wasn't sharp today and not reassuring. There is the impression of an amazing disconnect between the admin and the folks.

I'm a lawyer - I can sue anybody for anything! And I'm sure the DOJ would, too.

You thus take a temporary problem and make it a permenant one.

I am less worried about confronting one problem, although obviously serious, then I am about what may happen if we start to see stagflation. Alternative energy is a crock anyway; what holding it up has nothing to do with the market and everything to do with regulatory restraint; allowing the price to float at this rate will kill us long before anything gets constructed.

Price controls never, ever, ever, ever work. Thomas Sowell illustrated this in his 2002 book "Basic Economics".
