Anyways, I'm in the navy attached to a helicopter squadron. Our birds are preparing to leave. In fact, we are all working through the weekend to see to this. Lives are at stake and a helicopter squadron can provide an invaluable service to such desperate people...
...yet, I have a strange, sad feeling that these helicopters will be returning with bullet holes in them.
I don't know if it's been posted, but when they announced this it was said they pulled 1500 police from their RESCUE efforts to deal with these thugs!!
I think lives are more important than things at this point. The looters are probably going to get sick and perhaps die from the water they're trolling through anyway. In which case those things they stole won't help them at all and those people who were abandoned by the police will also die!
What else does Martial Law permit? Shooting on sight, I hope. Especially those who are terrorizing hospital and relief staff. Stealing food and water is one thing; anything else is unforgivable.
Because the savages weren't put down two days ago, they are now forming roving gangs that are very well armed, and they are beginning to display some basic tactics (covering fire), which will make them a much more formidable force to deal with once someone gets serious about it.
The time to deal with them was two days ago. And this latest announcement isn't "dealing with them". It's little more than political cover for the assclowns politicians in LA.
Maybe some disgruntled Guardsmen or police officers will take things into their own hands and deal with the problem. Otherwise, many innocents will suffer at the hands of the gangs.
What exactly does that translate to in terms of government coersion and compliance with the law?
About the same time as this post FOX News reported more reports of thugs in the streets carrying AK-47's as the son sets on New Orleans. If there ever was a case for Martial Law, this is it.

One, day late and a dollar short. Much of the damage from looting has been done already.
Two, the only way to stop looters at this point and get the message across is to back up your words with action. That means simply declaring it won't work at this point. You're gonna have to shoot someone.
And lastly, if American soldiers didn't shoot Iraqis during their looting frenzy what makes you think they can shoot their own citizens.
