President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Where do we start on this one.
You just dont start up a refinery by flipping a switch.
If the refractory in the furnaces has been wet it has to be s l o w l y brought up to temperature, make sure all tubes are full of feed and pumps running etc etc.
Long drawn out process, not easy by any means and can be very dangerous if not done exactly right.
Ummmm .. not a very PC thing to say, Wolf
Stupid too !!
"WDSU reporter says looks like no one in charge"
I've really had about enough of that. There's not one natural leader in that crowd? Not one person so driven by circumstances and adrenaline to stand up and say "If you want to live, follow me. If you can walk carry those who can't."
Maybe I'm just different that way, or I spent too much time in and around the military, but I can't see sitting by and waiting for my family to die.
If no one is in charge you TAKE charge.
FEMA Director Mike Brown:
1. Food and water is being distributed
2. Medical care is being provided
3. People are being evacuated to decent shelter

We're getting ready to leave shortly for dinner at a friend's house. If anyone sees anything breaking, please ping me?
Great press conference by the FEMA director. He did a good job.
Well they havent driven down that road to the area near the convention center. I dont expect people without access to radio and tv broadcasts to know that a road is now open
Your post was clear as was my suggestion to tell it to those attempting to blame the President, the Traitor Media.
I won't even articulate what is going through my mind in that regard at this moment.
What did Hastert say? I've been out of the loop. Thanks.
Nice to know who is price gouging!
Gunmen target medical convoy

Amen.
You know, I'm wondering if the media is hyping these riots stories just for the sensationalism.
I mean they aren't interviewing people who have NOT had a bad experience, are they? I know they are all having a horrible time, but some of them are going by the instructions and moving out.
Must be a Democrat voter.
CNN has a live feed of people outside the dome -people are dropping like flies - either they are passing out or they are dying.
here I'll do it for you!
That's true, but there are at least two TV teams at teh Convention Center; how hard would it be for one of them to pass the word?
