President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
I was listening to a liberal radio show out of NYC last night - they are sure they can use court orders to get the refinery and oil infrasructure back up and running.
;-)
** Nagin, Blanco, and FEMA- youre fired.**
The first 2, ABSOLUTELY...
FEMA, however, is doing EXACTLY what they are paid to do...
SUPPORTING local officials, and setting up the logistical train for LONG-TERM Care and evacuation...
In NO, it's the responsability of THE MAYOR to insure Law and Order, and it's the job of the GOVERNOR to back him up...
EXCELLENT idea!
Bush I was president during Andrew, not Clinton.
Good for him!
:-)
~LOL~
EOC New Conference:
Man FEMA director doing a good job. McClellan had it right. Talk to FEMA.
Sounds like an adult. FEMA just don't jump in.
Logistics first!
Who gets the funds?
If you are sending the money to the United Way count me out!
If you are sending money to the Red Cross I will think about it!
If you are sending cash to the Salvation army count me a definite YES!
wow
Been listening on my car radio that Walt Disney gave $2.5 million, etc., and thought it would be nice to beat DU.com to the punch by displaying compassionate conservatism.
A reporter on WDSU this afternoon described a completely dry route (that he drove) in and out of the city this morning.
That doesn't mean that eveyone could walk out, obviously, but there apparently is a land route out of the city.
Actually, FEMA Guy seems to be pretty competent. Homeland Security Guy is, I think, a typical ninny bureaucrat.
Unfortunately for him, part of FEMA Guy's job is to be the fall guy if necessary.
I HEARD that!!!!
Excerpted from another thread on another board:
"I've just learned from one of my patrolmen that just returned from New Orleans, that there are snipers on top of the charity hospital. They've looted and are burning the Oakwood Mall. Once again they have killed police officers, this time Gretna Police Department lost 4 officers, slain in the line of duty."
Just keep this in mind, this is unconfirmed information but could be related to your CNN post.
I don't care.
Cafferty said something at he very end about an email he received sayying he would have trouble with the IRS now for all he has said about the govt today - and Wolf said 'you've got nothing to hide' and Cafferty laughed.
