President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I just got this in email not Good
______________________________________________________

Dear Friends and Family:

I know many of you are already deep in prayer about the situation in the
Gulf Coast. Many of you may not know that the third largest responding
agency to disasters is The North American Mission Board. Already many teams
from all over the nation have been dispatched---they have been asked to
provide 300,000 meals to rescue workers, ect....Later they will be sending
building crews---these are made up of lay leaders from Southern Baptist
churches all over our state and nation.

Several of the convoys that have left their states (including Georgia) have
been robbed and been unable to deliver much needed supplies.

Also, I just received word from John that two of our workers have been shot.

Please take a moment to lift these two workers up to the Father and pray for
our nation and this area

Please take time together tonight as a family to intercede for pastors who
have lost their homes and churches, for relief workers and the whole
situation.

Please pray for The North American Mission Board---for wisdom.

Thanks and love,

XXXXX XXXXX

"These people are so poor and so black."

I heard it, and couldn't believe it.

I heard a black legislator on FNC with Neil Cavuto yesterday who said that of course people were looting; they were trying to survive.

Neil didn't point out that they were stealing more than food and water to survive. Nor did he point out that the shooters were trying to stop rescue operations and raping and murdering women and children.

Thank you. I just watched him and I am so angry.

Hell yes the people on our TV screens are poor and black. It's what 40 years of welfare has done. They got the leaders they wanted--a Gov who did not have the sense to provide transportation to get them out of a possibly doomed city--or neighborhood ahead of the storm. It could have been done--but was not.

So it's all Bush's fault.

But look, you are making it sound like there is nothing bad at all going on in NO.

Apology accepted. I am not trying to dismiss your friends report out of hand. Just trying to point out that it may not be entirely accurate.

I am hardly attempting to minimize the chaos, death, and looting. But I think it behooves us to remember that notions of "hospital takeovers" and the like mainly serve to occupy and distract the police which is what the looters want.

Ed said that Moveon.org has also started a movement to adopt a family.

Mark Burnett needs this idea for his next reality show. Limousine liberals, locking up the refrigerators and medicine cabinets and asking "what kind of food do you people eat".
