I've been thinking for a while that the gangs started planning this before the call for evacuations even went out. They were better prepared than the governor.
Status of New Orleans Passport Agency We have all witnessed the devastation suffered by Americans across the hurricane-hit Gulf Coast region. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we express particular concern today for those who work at the New Orleans Passport Agency and their families. Their safety and welfare is our primary concern and first priority. We are striving to learn more about our people as well as the agency itself. Our agency in New Orleans is a critical part of our passport production infrastructure, processing 17% of our nations passport applications. As with many other government facilities in the region, it is closed until damage assessment is possible and remediation steps can be taken. However, we are working urgently to address workload concerns by rerouting new cases to other locations, and tracking those cases that are currently in New Orleans. For additional information, please call our National Passport Information Center (NPIC) at 1-877-487-2778 (1-877-4USA PPT), or refer to our website at Travel.State.Gov.
I hear you, but unfortunately, to foot the bill, you have to be able to pay. The taxpayers and businesses aren't there any more. There is no earning power.
Somebody on Fox last night made the comparison between the riots and looting after the NYC blackout in 1977 and the lack of such after 9/11 and after last summer's blackout. The influence of Rudy Giuliani cannot be overestimated. New Orleans needs to hire him to come down there and kick some ass.
Did you see my post up above? The Mississippi NG are being brought back from Iraq.
Not being sent, per se, they are just finishing their rotation, it just happens to coincide with the hurricane aftermath.
Many shelters in my county in FL have begun accepting pets with proper proof of vaccinations, etc. They realized that too many people weren't evacuating because of the pet restrictions at the shelters
Pressure's on Blanco now to finally act. After all of this is over, Ms. Blanco had better have the grace to resign. She's a disgrace.
Hell, send in the Marines.

Evidently not just New Orleans. Problems with desperation in rescue..the ME FIRST get out of my way with violence.
Big problems at Superdome.
So it isn't just the looters..it is the rescuees that are a problem
During 9/11 we had so many waiting hospitals, triage units, blood donors...the tragedy was that there were just about no survivors to treat. Here we have THOUSANDS of survivors -- and it's everything else that is so screwed up right now...
Of course the logistics are quite different...but it is disturbing to note that frustrating contrast.
GOD, HELP!
The LA National Guard units were already scheduled to come home from Iraq next week.

steve harrigan reported first hand on the attacks on the small boats tryng to launch rescues. Harrigan is at the end of I-10E (at the edge of the flood) interviewing the boaters."
I know, the pattern's been developing for the past 24 to 48 hours. Pretty sure the good guys are allowed to defend themselves, and I expect that's how it will happen when it pops.
"Dora the dog sits stranded on a roof."
That's the saddest picture I've seen yet.
Then again, at this point, I'd rather save the canines than the human animals that are infesting New Orleans. At least they have the brains not to bite the hand that's feeding them (or shoot at it).
Last night somebody on Fox said that the people that went down to the convention center were the ones from the SuperDome who were refusing to go to Houston.
Is the Miss NG returning home early or is their rotation up...what kind of unit is returning home...infantry, Air?
I'm glad they are coming home.
That's a good decision on the part of our Military.
