ME TOO! My aunt is a nurse and was volunteering. She said she will not go back and help. Too afraid.

They should have put them in old military bases. This is going to be trouble.
Boy, do I ever agree with that! Lord know, there are a lot of empty housing in closed bases. Put them in there, put razor wire around and patrol the perimeter.
You know, these people could also have serious health issues that could cause widespread epidemics. I would isolate (quaranteen) them for a period of time.
To heck with "Political correctness". We are in a domestic war here.

Blimps and planes?
RBurgwin writes:
Why can't they use the blimps that can have messages on the sides of them and planes that drag signs to let people know what's going on...that help is on the way...where to go for water, etc?
Maybe somebody will see this and figure out a way to do it. Thanks.
Pass Road apartments
From Greg McClain:
Thanks for the Katrina blog, wealth of information for individuals who left the area...Do you have any information on the Oak View Apts in Gulfport on Pass Road...? Did flooding reach that far back and are the apts still standing...?? Any info will be great...
Damage on Pass Road is related to wind and fallen trees. The storm surge didn't reach that far back. I can't remember which apartment those are specifically, so I can't help you out further.

I have a basement outside Atlanta, GA that is partially finished, has drywall up, a single room could probably house 3. I have one bed and we could do sleeping bags for the others.
Do you know anywhere that is coordinating the movement of people that need to be housed through New Orleans churches?

There are rumors of rioting and attacks in downtown Baton Rouge near the River Center, where about 5,000 "refugees" are being housed. The local BR courthouse has apparently shut down due to violence, and the SWAT team may have been called in.I've wondered if this lawlessness would gradually spread from city to city, then to surrounding states.
I think SWAT teams all across the country ought to be in a state of readiness to go where needed.
I can't believe I am saying this.

Has the Governor declare martial law yet?
Several legal authorities have asserted that the Louisiana Constitution does not allow "martial law" to be declared.

They should automatically suspend all credit card payments for those people in the affected states, regardless if they have credit protection or not. The way they do if you lose your job - you can still use the card, but paying it back is put on hold.
