President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
Good Lord, what a thing to wake up to....
New Orleans needs to be entirely evacuated of civilians. It is uninhabitable at present. All people departing the city by bus or private car should only carry necessities - no obvious loot like DVD players, jewelry, and so forth. Only one firearm per adult person should be permitted. Those who remain (other than persons trapped in homes and needing rescue) should be treated as outlaws who must either surrender or be shot on sight.
"....Bulldog 3 to defender 7...fire out...Mp's have area completely secure...firemen not leaving til they get the smoke out...
Fire is out, area secure, no issues...now pumping the smoke out of the dome.
Australia has offered support for hurricane relief.
Have we heard from the British?
Yep. New Orleans, steal generators from the people trying to rescue you, then shoot at the people might save your life once the cholera starts.
Ahhh.
Thanks.
Will change to 100.
Perhaps a FREEPMAIL to John Robinson would get him to consider your suggestion.
Fireman not leaving until they get the smoke out .
I lost my connect to the scanner and can't get back on!
Peach, words almost fail me this morning - remember when folks were complaining initially about the searches when the folks first started to be placed in the Superdome? NOW we know why
Thank goodness. Thank you so much for the job you are doing!
Breakfast has arrived here and I have to break away for that...I imagine I'll have a lot to read when I get back...Maintain...
I've just been pressing play again on my player.
Note: A small number of criminals are doing the shooting. The NG should just gun them down. Bring in snipers if need be.
Me too. Scanner must be getting hit pretty hard right now. FR can do that, you know.
I'm watching wdsu and they are showing Harry Connick Jr. in New Orleans. What the freaking hell is he doing in NO when everyone has been ordered out?!?
James Carville actually behaved even though the interviewer was trying her best to get him to blame someone - he said all that could be done is being done & folks responding were tremendous
Lengthy searches as those people entered the Dome WERE worthwhile; this situation would be ten times as bad if those searches hadn't been conducted.
Were people allowed to enter and leave the Dome during the day? I'm wondering how those people got in there with guns.
Curious - why all the discussion about the structure of the thread? It's been up in this format for a long time It ain't broke. Prople need to set their machines appropriately and /or get a faster connection. My last comment on the question
