This was INTENDED as an accountant's checklist - telling people affected what was being done for them, telling the rest of us how bad it is.
You want sentiment instead of action? That feeds and saves no one. There will be time for sentiment later, but even better will be results of action.
Get real.
We heard action and leadership from the President, because no state or local official in Louisiana has demonstrated any such leadership.
People now have reassurance that someone is in charge and that the full weight of the federal govt will be brought to bear.
I have the feeling that Bush and company are furious with Blanco and her ineptitude.
A checklist is *very* helpful to those who are impacted. I remember in the wake of 9/11 taking a *huge* amount of comfort when Guiliani would talk about what trains were running, i.e., "the N train will be running on the F track to West Fourth, the R train will be running ..." I work a few blocks from the World Trade Center and could not return to work until the next week but hearing Guiliani talk about subway routes made me feel that someone was trying to turn chaos into order.
