There are thousands of people who have either left the city are waiting rescue on/in their houses or are in the shelters who are NOT taking part in any of this and are desperately in need of aid. Don't penalize them because of the acts of a few. There are many more good people out there than there are the bad, it's just the bad who get the press.

People who left the city generally have insurance and historically don't line up for hand outs.  The aid is going to be given to the thugs and looters wreaking havoc in the streets of N.O. right now.

"don't penalize them for the acts of a few" Few????? I had to turn the tv off last night and even this morning visions of grinning men, women, and children grabbing as much stuff as possible and fighting over various items, still turn my stomach.

I know that there are actual victims here but most that have been shown who decided to stay in the "Big Easy" (now we really know what that stands for, don't we)are just lawless looters who deserve no pity at all!

It is discouraging to think that our donation dollars are going to help those who've helped themselves to stores and steal whatever they can, even more than they can possibly use. Why aren't they stealing water and clothes and food, some are, instead of stuff they can't use now? I'm sure they are desparate for those items now. Instead, we see them carting off TV's and dvd's and other things they can't possibly use at this time. When the rescue vehicles come for them, will any of them be able to take this stuff with them? The guy loading his van with TV's, shouldn't he be loading it with other stranded people and getting out, if he can find a road? Things have really broken down.

But, still, I agree, Gardener, it's hard to penalize everyone for the actions of a relative few.

You said what I was thinking. I realize that human life is LE's top priority, but something has got to be done to stop the looting and outbreaks of violence. They come off behaving like animals, and the sad thing is that they don't care.

They'll always be a segment of society, but let's always remember that they are just a small segment.

This behavior is exactly why folks often refuse to evacuate in the first place ! You leave & the govt. actually aids & abbets the looters instead of shooting them.
