There are thousands of people who have either left the city are waiting rescue on/in their houses or are in the shelters who are NOT taking part in any of this and are desperately in need of aid.

People who left the city generally have insurance and historically don't line up for hand outs.  The aid is going to be given to the thugs and looters wreaking havoc in the streets of N.O. right now.

Exactly! And the $mackers sent to Norlins will go right to the local democrat criminal machine.

Yes, many of those who left probably have insurance, but from what I've been reading it may take 6 months to a year before the insurance companies are able to settle with everyone. In the mean time many of those people are going to end up in shelters or tent cities or whatever temporary housing FEMA and others are able to come up with. They are likely to end up needing the help of the various aid agencies before this is through. The same is true for those in the shelters or needing rescue and the aid agencies also provide food, water and shelter for the rescuers. You have to make your own decisions about your money obviously. I would just ask you to just take into account that there are far more people who are just trying to survive and take care of their families than there are those who are out breaking the law. Please don't penalize them for the actions of a few.

Those people that have insurance and evacuated, are the ones, that will really get hosed. Most of them probably are well off enough to get in their cars and evacuate, but I doubt many of them will be able to afford to live in a motel for 2 or 3 months, without any income. I doubt, that they will be receiving the charity that those that stayed are going to get.

They're just being good democrats the way they were groomed to be by liberal democrat politicians force feeding them the ideas that they are entitled to free handouts by the evil majority who have held them down. It's get even time. I'm curious as to how many of the Walmart looters were employees there.

Appreciate your sharing these events.. which is why I advocate no charitable gifts until we see just what is needed and what organization can respond with results to those needs.. The citizenry will need our resources and verbal support in the days ahead..

Just one thing really bothers me... if NO is under water.. no way to get around.. homes are in ruins..no way to get out of the city.. no gas..no place to go.. etc... where are the looters taking all this stuff???

From the pictures, a person will have a terrible time just getting out of the city or into the Dome with anything but basic needs..

I agree that we have a certain element of persons who take full advantage of a crisis.. NO has more than their share of this profile.. but where are the security people?? What the heck is "Marshall law"?..

Consideration: As people are forced to leave NO... I think that the leadership is calling for a full evacuation.. then everyone carrying loot should be arrested and placed in a secured site outside the city to wait for prosecution..

I know this is a whale of a suggestion.. most people in power do not want to deal with this (votes/public perceptions etc).. but if it is not dealt with we have created support and silent endorsement of these actions.. which is unacceptable in a civil society...

By the way.. while the looters are bad now.. just wait until the "white collar" looters move in.. i.e. cheating on FEMA forms and request, insurance fraud and the hordes of "helpers" coming into the city to "help" rebuild at a premium price... geeze louise..

So much for my feeble thought this AM...

Homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage.

Most people do NOT have separate flood insurance.

My daughters are beginning a project to collect cash from our church and schools. The plan is to try to get local companies match the funds raised dollar for dollar.

We'll be picking a church in the LA area and sending the funds directly to the pastor to distribute to his parishoners in need. This way, we'll know that every single dollar will go to those in need and not to administrative costs.
