Over decades, the government should have had one overweening infrastructure priority: to ensure the levees worked.

This is a point that needs to be driven home not just in New Orleans, but from one end of the U.S. to the other. Dating back to Lyndon Johnson's idiotic "Great Society" spending spree, this country has spent the last 40 years pissing away so much money on massive entitlement programs that we've failed to notice how so much of our infrastructure is so old -- and we really have no idea how to pay for upgrades/maintenance to it.

Well, as far as I'm concerned anyone who can get these people to shut up and sit down will be providing a public service.

Know how an interviewer can set one of these Dem politicians off? When the Dems is spewing all of the "those poor people" drivel, the host needs to ask them what they think about the fact that the looters aren't paying taxes on their swag. The Dem would probably want them shot for that.

Besides praying and donating to help immediately I am wondering why the levee's in New Orleans haven't been worked on in over 40 years?? I would like to see heads roll on that one.

Matt: What about the looters?
Gov: They aren't looters. They are voters.

Without question this is an act of God.

Katrina was an act of God. The design of New Orleans was an act of Man. NO was a disaster waiting to happen.

But I have been praying for NO and Miss.

Look at the talent pool the Democrats have to draw from, shallower than the flood waters by far.

NO is a disgrace to the Country. Their 'elected' (see crooked) have stolen Federal money for decades.
For example of the quality of their highest officials take a look at the mayor of NO, the Senator, and Governor. What a joke.
And billions of our take money will flow in to rebuilt this mess.......Uggggg!

There were also a few women on tape looting diapers. We also are seeing the same footage over and over again, making it look like thousands are pillaging. It's bad, but it's not that bad. TV distorts reality.

Well, these pols are a menace. If I were the locals, I'd be praying for the DOD to somehow take charge.

I consider the political "crap", as you call it, a necessary part of the cleanup. NO, and Louisiana in general, has been plagued with politicians who were happy to build castles on the sand because it allowed more play money for themselves. But if you remember Jesus's story about the house on the sand, you may note the essential point of that story: The house on the sand looked as solid as the house on the rock, until the storm hit.

Go ahead and cry for the cameras, make yourself feel better if you can. Those who prefer to learn from failure and suffering rather than wallow in it will gin up their classical American grit and Yank ingenuity, and rise to the challenge by God's grace.

Here's hoping that the cleanup includes the indispensable political element. Dims, vote fraud, and Oprah-ized figurehead leadership, bleah....
