It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....
Government Believers, you are.
>>A complete mandatory evacuation would have accomplished two tasks:
1) no looters; and
2) people not feeling the need to stay in their homes to protect against looters.<<
Martial law was not declared until after the storm went thru. That prevents "A complete mandatory evacuation".
ABC News White House Embellisher. But you knew that. :-)
Admirably put. Nevertheless, under the circumstances, twelve hours isn't nearly as long a time in a disaster area as it is in front of a computer.
Keeping quiet about high death tolls would be prudent at this point if for no other reason than avoiding outsiders looking for more information.
"Tass and Pravda in the USSR also blocked bad news. Sovietization of America is ongoing, and control of the news is part of it."
I love it -- if the media doesn't report the news bad enough, they've become Tass and Pravda. But if they were reporting thousands dead, others on FR would accuse them of hyping the story for ratings. Let's see, maybe if they reported a few hundred dead?. Then they wouldn't be Pravda or hyping it.
Unless you've done it before (I have, although not in something this large), you don't have the slightest idea what it's like trying to get good info in a disaster.
Go back and read my original post.
I impugned no one.
Return to your hand wringing and leave me alone.
If you are going to lie and misrepresent my original post on this thread then I have no use for you and your alleged broadcast "experience".
why are such an ass?
So we have to take each report and reporter on its own merits, and IMHO, this report has no merit. But the proof, one way or another, will emerge within the next week,
Thank you for a reasoned, thoughtful post of disagreement. I don't necessarly have the same point of view in this case, but I very much respect a well thought out argument that doesn't resort to mudslinging. You are right that we have to avoid lumping all media into "bloggers good, MSM bad" categories. And I'm all for using individual discernment on news sources.
Why are you so gulliable?
never mind...I don't want to know why you are such an ass...
That's ok it's easily appearent why you're so gulliable.
Dear Lord,
Christ have mercy,
Lord have mercy.
Do any Freepers from Texas to Alabama have a spare generator they would sell or rent to my family? None of the Sears from Fort Worth to Jackson have any. I weathered the storm just south of Jackson and am in Fort Worth now. My brother in law will be out here in a few hours looking for a generator. My father in law has no power or water and needs a generator. Freepmail me at this name if you can help.
I am reminded of the National Weather Service bulletin from the morning before the storm, which stated that "human suffering will be beyond comprehension" or something like that. Many scoffed at such language. It may yet prove accurate.
"We're being given time to mentally prepare for what is to come."
This is something we had when the words CAT 5 were spoken, now we should be getting the latest actual news!
I don't know...I guess when I hear the info directly from the hospital administrators, I tend to believe it...
Whatever...sorry to have offended you...
You are saying what I was thinking. That will make Nightline and This Week intoning the recently killed sound pretty silly.
Too bad it takes a tragedy to knock Silly Sheehan off the air.
Of these 1,000 of bodies, how many came up from grave sites distupted?
